And now you can preorder the NOMAD LETTERS (out December 1!): press.stripe.com/nomad-lette… For years these letters have circulated (at first, unofficially) among investors, acquiring a devoted readership. We wanted to give them a permanent home in print. Nick and his partner Qais Zakaria’s record is extraordinary. The letters are the account of how they got there, featuring everything from studying Amazon and Costco (Nomad’s defining investments)—to visiting cement plants in Zimbabwe, and beyond. They’re candid about their mistakes and curious about the forces that shape investors’ behavior: incentives, psychology, and the wisdom (or foolishness!) of the crowd. Since closing the fund, they’ve devoted their time to philanthropy, a journey Nick recounts in the lovely foreword he wrote for this edition. I’m thrilled to continue adding to the investing corner of our catalogue, and I can’t think of a better work to follow Poor Charlie’s Almanack. ❣️
Finally someone caught it 🤭🤭

Some big personal news: I'm moving to join Works in Progress as executive editor, starting next month. I have been hoping for an opportunity to work with @bswud and @s8mb for more than a decade, and I'm incredibly excited to finally have one. WIP is expanding on every front right now. We'll soon begin coverage of business and finance, as well as putting out more reported features. To that end, we'll be hiring more writers and reporters in the year to come. I'm planning to remain based in the US to help build out our presence here. The print edition of WIP has existed for less than 12 months, but sometime in the next week or so we will reach our 10,000th paying print subscriber. It's a group that now includes people who've been at the highest echelons of government and who run the world's biggest public companies. We’re already on track to 3x that number next year. We'll be in store at Barnes & Noble, Hudson News and independent newsagents next week too. I think WIP is providing something that people are craving from physical media right now: fewer, extremely well-crafted pieces in a beautifully designed form. Issues now feature an amazing group of columnists, including Tyler Cowen, Dan Wang and Stephen Kotkin. Each edition is better than the last. You'll see us in more and more places next year too. In January, our new weekly documentary films will launch on YouTube. We're expanding into the events space, with a new series in North America. The sky is the limit from here on out.

The future of banking will run on stablecoins. On Plasma, in partnership with @StripeCrypto.
We're bringing together Stripe's fiat and crypto infrastructure to make it easier for businesses to build stablecoin-backed cards that work across currencies and markets. More on what we're building with @Plasma,

If you’re using stablecoins for real-world use cases, it’ll soon be unthinkable that they aren’t private. Too much of crypto relies on pseudonymity instead of privacy, especially in the age of AI as it becomes easier to track and correlate transactions onchain. Tempo has been working on Tempo Zones as a scalable, technically nuanced, and highly practical solution to onchain privacy. And the first Tempo Zone is now live with Deel, adding privacy to their global contractor payouts. We all want real-world flows to scale onchain, and privacy is a clear prerequisite to that. The Tempo team has worked hard to craft a practical solution and if you’re interested in learning more, please reach out to the team!
Privacy is live on Tempo. Tempo Zones let enterprises keep customer stablecoin balances and payments private, with built-in compliance controls and access to global liquidity. @deel is the first customer with Zones live in production.

Software is increasingly treated as disposable in the AI era. Yet we spend half our waking lives looking at screens! We don’t want to spend that time with zombie products—monotonous, vacant, and uncared for. We want products with soul. 💜 I go deep on this in my talk from @lennysan's Summit: youtube.com/watch?v=GLvFTMtw…

Opening access for developers to build Muse connectors. You bring the API -- Muse brings the agent, the browser, and the context of what the person actually wants. “We don’t want to let the quality bar slip just because we’re shipping more and faster. It just became a question of designing a system to enable that at this newer scale.” Excited to share our latest case study with the @Stripe design team! They gave us a behind-the-scenes look at tools they’ve built across product, brand, and content that allow them to do Stripe-level work at an incredible velocity. AI also clearly lets more people there participate in shipping great product, lets designers go way broader in their explorations, and even lets designers/engineers do work that simply wasn’t possible before AI (wait 'till you see how their brand team uses AI) Thanks @lil_dill and team for showing us what embracing AI effectively can look like! 0:00 – How AI is changing design at Stripe 1:48 – Using ProtoDash for high-fidelity prototyping 4:52 – Maintaining Stripe’s voice at scale with Dante 8:03 – Designing Stripe Press book covers 9:45 – Why now is a creative renaissance

Works in Progress may be the most interesting magazine publishing today. This article on the evolution of horses nicely illustrates the power of selection (natural and artificial) of heritable traits to shape a species, but also the massive role of developmental chance: Secretariat, history's fastest horse, had a massive heart, in his case a non-genetic trait which was not passed on to his descendants. worksinprogress.co/issue/the…

Ahead of the coming "third wave of philanthropy," we want to give hundreds of millions of dollars to "general managers" to lead targeted funds tackling big problems in global health and wellbeing (h/t @nanransohoff for the frame). Apply by October 2: coefficientgiving.org/funds/…
News! @coeff_giving is significantly accelerating our global health and wellbeing giving in 2026-27! Increasing our @GiveWell support to $1B was the first step. Today we're taking another: Launchpad Funds, an RFP to seed new funds to take on big, underfunded problems in GHW. 🧵

Really enjoying @WorksInProgMag so far. A rare combination of hard science, social science, tech, academia (gave me “the stuff I actually wanted to read in grad school” vibes), genuinely interesting articles on smart topics with an elevated sensibility on a similar level imho as The Paris Review. I appreciate that it assumes its readership is intelligent and capable of holding two competing thoughts at the same time. Doesn’t rely on corny loud infographics or awkward pop culture entertainment tropes.
