You know he was probably beating himself up about being late, thinking that he just fucked his future plans, only to realize being late is the reason he has a future at all. Holy fuck

I’ve spent the last twenty-five years searching for the people in my photo. I’ve found ten. This is Benjamin. He was late for a job interview in the World Trade Center.

Whatever else September 11 did, it ushered in the age of global simultaneity.
The whole world, literally, was watching. Never before had more people seen the same news event at the same moment. An estimated two billion people or more—a third of the species—saw the attacks in real time or watched coverage in that day’s news reports.

On May 18, 1980, Richard “Dick” Lasher stopped his car on Forest Road 26 and made this photo of Mount St. Helens erupting. Seconds later, he abandoned the Pinto and escaped on his motorcycle.
Lasher survived. The red Pinto did not.
“It was my fifteen minutes of fame,” Lasher told me.

Few photographs are more recognizable, more evocative, or more symbolic. “Tank Man” not only embodies the historic Tiananmen Square protests, but also serves as symbol of defiance against oppression everywhere. Photo by Jeff Widener.
