COVID reduced life expectancy especially in the elderly. The 1919 Influenza pandemic targeted young adults. Compare the size of the drop from the 2 pandemics to imagine what an H5N1 pandemic could look like.
We are sleep walking our way towards an H5N1 pandemic right now.
This didn't just happen. It was vaccines, antibiotics, pasteurization, management of chronic disease: hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease. We are awash in chronic disease because we are obese, don't exercise, smoke, drink too much, and eat poorly. Recent dip is COVID.
We are far more healthy as a society than we have ever been because of vaccines, antibiotics, statins, and now GLP-1 drugs. Chronic disease can be dramatically reduced by: stopping smoking, losing weight, exercising, stop eating processed foods. All choices Americans can make.

Vaccines have been EXTENSIVELY tested for safety, despite what you hear from RFK, Jr. 138 studies in young children are analyzed by the Cochrane Review and no evidence of a link with autism was found. They are the gold standard of medical evidence.

At a symposium covering some current basic science of vaccines. Been a while for me, but as someone who was an immunologist back in the day, I can assure you that the overwhelming majority of information and opinions on X about vaccines is either overly simplistic or wrong.

It took 10 paragraphs for @nytimes to get to the lede. This should have been at the top of the story. This was a horific, apparently organized antisemitic attack on Jews in Amsterdam.
