Here a stunningly innumerate Elon cites his 250 million followers on X (i.e 3% of the world) as proof that "a lot more people like me than dislike me" Then he doubles down on the myopia, "when I look at the comments I'd say 70-80% of people like me". youtube.com/watch?v=AQnwQHMn…

Sad to hear @brcantrill rail against DHH for using Rust without fawning over its brilliance, but then spit on Perl's grave, "there's a reason you never heard of it" when it had a great run including CPAN, arguably the first great package repository 20 years before Rust crates.

Three cases. 1) You have a real dog. 2) You have robot dog 100% indistinguishable from a real dog except there’s an off button, so you can power it off when you travel. 3) You have the same robot dog but you NEVER press the off button, not even once.

Additive noise calls for fixed point and multiplicative noise for floating point. Taking the log turns multiplicative noise into additive noise: a float is essentially fixed point on a log axis.

"Ours is the decisive moment, and it is we who are alive to see it, to shape it, to place history on the tracks of what we make out of it. In this decade, we face a moment the world has never seen before. Just like everyone else before us." quillette.com/2026/11/06/aft…

“Make room for”, ha! He can’t even say something like “We thought it was great vehicle, but it didn’t catch on, and we will learn from the experience.”
Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production

Movies with real human actors will remain popular even as fully AI ones become viable. The “star system” will persist — the audience wants to see real humans they know and love. They want talk show and podcast appearances, they want stories from the shoot. metastable.org/chats/star-sy…

We’ll value actual humans with back stories, preparing our food, teaching our children, giving us a tough diagnosis. Even as, yes, those human have heavy AI assistance behind the scenes.

Electricity, including its generation, kills hundreds of thousands of people per year, and we are seemingly fine with that. AI will similarly have both enormous benefits and enormous costs, and we’ll suck it up.

Will AI be a net good for humanity? It might be like electricity: unending good things come from electricity, but at the same time 50% of electricity generation is from fossil fuels which have arguably destroyed the plant.

Both the goods and harms from AI will be so massive and so asymmetric it will not be clear how to tally it up. But like with electricity people will accept society took the plunge and there is no turning back.

Occam’s razor says we’re not living in a simulation, because which is simpler, our Universe arising from physics or some other Universe arising from physics and THEN ours arising inside that one?

The future code interview is you implement something complex using our AI and it deconstructs every decision you make along the way.

From 1880s to 1910 Americans were often diagnosed with neurasthenia due to the “the accelerating pace of modern civilization and technological change.”

The kicker it was true. All those things stressed people exactly like AI is doing today. Change is change, it’s always hard.
