Nice, been a while since I got to do a good “did anyone else hear that?” in the office
On Thursday at 11am, Berliners will hear a one-minute air raid siren. It's the first test of the city's siren in 30 years -- which goes to show just how precarious Germany is feeling at this geopolitical moment.

When my dad died in March we discovered he had just signed up (somewhat inexplicably) for an NYMag digital subscription — and I’ve wondered ever since which story converted him (in addition to grieving)
NYMag feels like one of the only publications that’s capable of doing this on a regular basis

idk if there’s anything the WSJ opinion page could have published that would have made my mom cancel her subscription while I worked there as a reporter. But boy did they try!

My Berlin-born son’s birth certificate was delayed because I didn’t realize that as foreign parents, we needed to furnish our own ORIGINAL birth certificates, not copies. Had to get them shipped here from the US in order to proceed

I visited the gravesite of my formerly enslaved fourth great grandfather for the first time in my life yesterday. On Juneteenth, I’ll speak his name @afroamcivilwar and honor the 200,000 Black soldiers who sacrificed their lives to preserve our Union. apnews.com/article/41f92a2d4…

The tennis nerds on here are going to nitpick Zendaya's forehand or whatever, but we should really be breathing a huge sigh of relief that Challengers is getting rave reviews. The scourge of pickleball. The awful netflix tennis show. We needed this.

Last year I got laid off from my media job and wasn’t sure what to do next. I think it’s important for those of us who left to talk about how, why, and that there are great opportunities out there. Thanks @lindazebian at @muckrack for the chat! muckrack.com/blog/2024/02/15…
