ALT A sprinkling of infield dirt scooped up from Progressive Field when I umpired there a few days ago, left as my homage to Bill Wambsganss, who pulled off the exceedingly rare feat of an unassisted triple play during Game 5 of the 1920 Cleveland v. Brooklyn World Series. The umpire at second base who called all three outs was Hall of Famer Hank O’Day. So during my men’s tournament at Progressive, guess who called a triple play? Not unassisted, but still, I felt like ole Hank must have felt calling Out!Out!OUT! more than a hundred years ago. Different field, different team name, but some things (like the thrill I got calling a triple play!) will never change.❤️⚾️

ALT The view from my friend’s 22nd story terrace overlooking east 63rd street in Manhattan. Ordinarily on a Friday evening at late rush hour, 63rd street would be bumper to bumper with cars and trucks heading west to get through Central Park and across the Hudson to New Jersey - but look at it last night. Completely free of vehicular traffic. No honking! Heavenly.
