Despite decent numbers of passing Cory's, the clear highlight of my Lizard yesterday (04/08) with @phelpstoby1 @elyod95 @ej_cornelius was this stunning Dutch-ringed juv casp picked up by Toby as we were leaving @CBWPS1

In 55 years we have never seen the seabird colonies on Canna in a worse state. Fulmar, gulls, shags and guillemots at or near record low numbers. Breeding productivity figures for most species well below long term averages. Food supply a big issue.

The only complex life we know to exist ANYWHERE in the universe. Being obliterated so that shareholders can amass imaginary wealth. It’s as heartbreaking as it is shameful.

These birds did not all go extinct in 2023. We need more dog owners to help our rapidly declining shorebirds. Once again I saw a #dog run riot chasing feeding Curlew, Oystercatcher, Sandwich Terns and Mediterranean Gulls at Goodwick beach, Pembrokeshire. There isn't any safe space from dogs at Goodwick for our #shorebirds

Modern birds replace their feathers regularly, a few at a time, in a process called molt. New study of fossil record suggests molt had begun to develop by 125 million years ago. #ornithology #BirdsOfX science.org/content/article/…?

This might come in handy for those who, like me, still have the old version of the 'Handboek'. A comparison I made between the 1w Red-headed and a 1w Black-headed Bunting (september 2016) with show the most important ID criteria taken from @nomadbirder 's talk on BirdersTwitter.

It was nice listening to singing Thrush Nightingales in the local parks around Copenhagen last weekend. One showed well briefly in full song out in the open!

Couple of photos of Goshawk seen today at clocaenog. Spent a couple of mornings there (one with @phelpstoby1 ). Tried a few new and usual areas- goshawks showed well in both - switchback/diplaying, perched up and calling..Some new/potential nightjar sites noted.
