Four days after the massacre at Wounded Knee, a burial party heard a baby crying beneath the snow. She was still strapped to her dead mother’s back. A general took her home and later called her his “relic.” On December 29, 1890, U.S. soldiers opened fire on a Lakota camp at Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota. Hundreds of Lakota men, women, and children were killed. A blizzard followed, leaving bodies frozen in the snow for days. When the burial detail returned, they discovered a four-month-old girl who had somehow survived. Her mother had been shot but had shielded her baby with her own body. Lakota women named the child Zintkala Nuni, meaning “Lost Bird.” Brigadier General Leonard Colby of the Nebraska National Guard took the baby to Nebraska and adopted her. He later described her as: “She is my relic of the Sioux War… and the Massacre of Wounded Knee.” The photograph of Colby and Lost Bird was taken in his hometown of Beatrice. His wife, Clara Colby, a prominent suffragist, dressed the little girl in white and wrote about her in her newspaper. But Leonard Colby soon lost interest in the child he had taken from the aftermath of the massacre. Lost Bird grew up caught between two worlds, never fully belonging to either. At 17, she became pregnant and was sent to a reformatory, where her baby was stillborn. She eventually ran away to join Wild West shows, rode with Buffalo Bill, and appeared as an extra in silent Western films—often cast as the stereotypical “Indian girl.” Her life was marked by hardship, displacement, and poverty. On Valentine’s Day, she died in Hanford, California, at just 29 years old, far from her Lakota people. But her story did not end there. In 1991, Lakota families and historian Renee Sansom Flood helped bring Lost Bird home. Her remains were returned to Wounded Knee and buried beside the mass grave where her mother lay. After nearly a century, she was finally returned to her people. Her headstone carries only two words: Lost Bird. A child who survived one of the darkest moments in American history spent much of her life searching for belonging. In the end, she was brought home.

When Master Marpa’s son died he wept bitterly, covering his head with his robes. An acolyte asked why he mourned, as he had taught them life was #illusion, impermanent. “Yes, my son was an illusion, but he was a beautiful illusion.” …I think many gurus make it up as they go along, good to escape the trap of non-relevance. — #vss365

E a memória? Ele me acolhe sem fazer perguntas.

Dia de los Muertos is here! On All Souls’ Day Grim Reapers lead the way for our dearly departed to visit their families. I bring my crew through via rollercoaster as a metaphor. No #illusion, there’s going to be a lot of emotional ups and downs. — #vss365 #FoxProse
For many Grim Reapers, All Saints’ Day is all about the kiddos, the little Ángelitos that died too soon. I had a delightful tea this morning with two girls who had strong opinions on the #wolf in Red Riding Hood. They were practically blushing. — #vss365 #FoxProse

This would be insane.
Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran. The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program. No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place. The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. “Bibi calls Trump about it every day,” says an informed observer. Netanyahu is cornered and desperate. After last week’s election results, he can’t form a government unless Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties that gives Netanyahu 61 seats in the Knesset. Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail. Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war. To that end, he’s applied maximum pressure to his closest allies in the administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper. Both oppose a negotiated settlement to the war they’ve so grievously mismanaged; both are pushing to restart major combat operations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA director John Ratcliffe are also following Netanyahu’s lead, as are leaders of the Democratic Party. In a recent meeting on the subject, former president Barack Obama said he opposes the current Iran peace deal being drafted in Doha. The rest of America’s longtime allies in the Middle East are terrified by the prospect of more war. On September 27th, Netanyahu flew secretly to Abu Dhabi to enlist the UAE in his lobbying effort for a final attack on Iran. The Emiratis refused. After eight months of conflict, Gulf economies are teetering. So are global energy and fertilizer markets. They won’t recover soon. Globally, there are a total of about 850 supertankers used to transport oil from producers to the rest of the world. In October alone, 11 of them were badly damaged in Hormuz. At this pace, a global depression is imminent. A nuclear strike would radically accelerate the destruction. Fallout from a ground explosion at Pickax Mountain would contaminate the Persian Gulf, poisoning the water supply for 100 million people. And those are just some of the immediate consequences for the region. The rest of the world is every bit as exposed. No country other than the United States has ever used a nuclear weapon in war. Some would like to. An American nuclear attack on Iran would set a new precedent. The Russians have already told at least two other governments that an American nuclear strike on Iran would free them to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Pakistan and India would be tempted to do the same against each other, as would North Korea against Seoul. After the first nuclear strike, World War Three is inevitable. That war would be short and final. We’ve been sleepwalking toward this moment for months. Since February, the administration has quietly rewritten America’s nuclear doctrine to make first use of so-called “battlefield nukes” easier and therefore more likely. No one in Washington in either party seems bothered by this. Now we’re on the brink of it. Close observers say Trump is likely to decide by next weekend whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That would be November 7, six days from now. To his credit, he’s hesitating. At the moment, Trump is listening to his vice president, JD Vance, and to his envoy and friend Steve Witkoff, both of whom argue a deal with Iran can be made. They’re right, though it won’t be simple. The Iranians are famously frustrating to negotiate with under any circumstances, and elements of that government have become more radical since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family were killed in February. After decades of isolation, even relatively moderate Iranian leaders seem confused by how decisions are made in the West. (There is a widespread belief in Tehran, for example, that the United States government controls Israel.) But overall, people who have spoken to decision-makers in Iran say there is consensus there that more war is bad for everyone and a deal is worth making. One group that hasn’t been consulted so far is the global population — the hundreds of millions of people who will be killed along with their children if Trump is pushed by Netanyahu into launching a nuclear strike next week. Now would be the time for them to speak up.

The double standard in the Michigan Senate race is an absolute abomination. On one side, you have Abdul El-Sayed, who is laser-focused on fighting to make the lives of working-class Michiganders better. Yet, the press routinely badgers him to defend himself by relentlessly posing racist, bad-faith questions about terrorism — as if being a Muslim automatically puts him under suspicion of being a terrorist. What the fuck?!! Meanwhile, Mike Rogers' bigotry gets a total free pass. He runs on a platform of white supremacy, shamelessly pandering to the most rabid Islamophobic bigots in Michigan, and mainstream media outlets barely blink an eye. The fact that a dedicated public servant is subjected to non-stop xenophobic vetting while a blatant bigot gets a free pass to inject hate into this election is a damning indictment of a failed press. It reveals the pathetic, broken state of American politics in 2026 — a toxic rot engineered, normalized, and driven entirely by Donald Trump.

I WISH YOU COULD HAVE SEEN WHAT I SAW TODAY. 🥹❤️🐾 I honestly cannot describe how happy I am. For days, we watched pieces of wood slowly turn into little houses for our rescued cats. My idea was simple — winter is coming, and I wanted them to have somewhere warm and cosy to curl up and sleep. But today, as our team started placing them inside the cat rooms, something happened that I never expected. THE CATS WENT CRAZY WITH EXCITEMENT! 😭❤️ The boys hadn’t even finished arranging them and the cats were already running over, climbing up, disappearing into one little room after another, peeking out, exploring and choosing their favourite spots. I stood there watching them and suddenly realised: We didn’t just build them warm beds. We gave them their own little world. ❤️ I thought I was simply creating protection from the winter cold. I had NO IDEA these houses would become their playground, hiding place, safe corner and favourite cosy place to be. Seeing them today made my heart feel as though it could burst. 🥹 To everyone who helped us build these — LOOK WHAT YOUR KINDNESS BECAME. And we are not finished yet. The houses still need painting and finishing, and our winter work still has a long way to go — more dog beds, winter protection for our donkey sheds, our heating system, and warm arrangements for the most vulnerable animals. We are building everything little by little, because that is how the funds are coming — a little arrives, we order the next materials, and the team gets back to work. I wish you could truly understand how much power you have. ❤️ A donation. A share. A repost. Something that may take only seconds for you can eventually become THIS — a frightened rescued animal running excitedly into a little home of their own. If we had enough help, we wouldn’t have to struggle inch by inch to finish before the cold becomes unbearable. Please help us keep going. Let’s finish what we started for them. 🙏❤️ ❄️ Winter Appeal: tawf.org.uk/winter-appeal-20… 🌐 Donate: tawf.org.uk/donate And please SHARE — you may never know which share becomes the next warm bed, the next shelter, or the next moment of happiness like this. 🐱🏠❤️
