Joburg is not collapsing because of coalitions or single party mayorship as it was with the ANC . The crisis of JHB is the crisis of how SA came to be as a country. JHB being the hub of economic activity and almost everyone being migrant laborers with controlled access via pass laws. Post-1994, those laws have been abolished, with our former bantustans largely underdeveloped. It's only logical everyone will want to go seek opportunities in the city. So what happens to social services? impossible. It is a "special" city. The only city in SA that cannot be fixed without fixing the economic organization in the country. Decentralize the economy from Gauteng, and you will fix Johannesburg. No mayor will fix Joburg without fixing the whole country. It's just imposible.
My concern is that Joburg cannot survive another coalition. Eleven mayors in 10 yrs is the reason this city is falling off the bone

Eugene De Kok appearing before the TRC Inquiry he says he was made a scapegoat. He says “FW De Klerk’s Nobel peace prize must be revoked because he is a killer who was never convicted.” @MakiLeshoro

Lula's win was carried by the poor who depend on social grants, LGBTQI people facing discrimination and religious abuse, workers now protected by labour law, and migrants in Brazil; he stands for and protects the poor. Your parties reject these people - Brazilians didn’t c we thank them.

Lula has defeated the forces of Christian Nationalism, Technofeudalism, and Imperialism that sought to orchestrate regime change in Brazil.

Failure is an orphan, but victory has many fathers, Mhlali. For an example; the Municipal Equitable Share. Beginning of the year, at budget, we (@bettergovza) proposed that Parliament increase it by R30bn, taking it to 10.9% ito the Division of Revenue, and amend the Fiscal Framework accordingly. NT opposed it. Only MKP and EFF agreed with us, but the GNU super-majority (+BOSA and ActionSA) rubber-stamped NT’s view, adopting the Framework as NT proposed. Jiki Jiki, Minister Godongwana now proposes to increase it by R20bn, taking it to 10.1%. Do you think they will amend the revised Fiscal Framework now or rubber stamp NT’s proposal and claim the victory of the R20bn increase? We’ll all find out in the coming weeks…

This applies too to some South Africans who are quick to condemn Israeli human rights abuses thousands of miles away, but they fail to speak out against the abuse that their own citizens inflict on foreigners.
I am watching the tweets and laughing like wtf? You don't like people with Lula politics in SA but you praise his win. This is incredibly stupid

Your endorsement for Helen is ok, but your departure from intellectual and scholarly rigour is INEXCUSABLE. You KNOW for a FACT that there will be a coalition government in the City of Joburg & instead of helping residents accept that reality, you adopt a DA position. Intellectual dishonesty should not be promoted, least of all by senior academics of your stature.

7. Zille is the only candidate if we want power, water, services & honesty & competence. Zille is the only candidate if JHB is to survive. Getting the largest vote will also not be enough. We cannot have coalition govt. Zille needs more than 50%. This is the only way JHB returns.

So, in one sentence: government operatives within the intelligence services withdrew R12 million to infiltrate @EFFSouthAfrica through key individuals in its @ParliamentofRSA caucus in order to collapse the party, and the project was named Project Mayibuye. Hhmmm!!

Lula's victory is deeply personal for me. Above all, I feel relief: Brazil has prevented the far right from returning to the presidency, alongside a strengthened right in Congress. But the result also exposes challenges facing democracies far beyond Brazil. 1/....

The people who are praising Lula da Silva would not have voted for him here in South Africa. Why? Lula gives grants to the poor and these people hate this. So it's pontificating at best this Lula praise. I don't buy it 🙏

It’s slowly infiltrating rural communities too. Spent the first half of this year in Bizana, and yeah, I have never seen that type of violence before. It’s jarring.
There is no level of good parenting that can insulate the black youth of this country from the despair and violence of township life.
