The global average score has dropped to 5.2, with 60 countries now under authoritarian rule, covering 39.2% of the world's population. Only 6.6% of the global population lives in a "full democracy," while 38.4% are in flawed democracies and 15.7% in hybrid regimes. Norway tops the list with a 9.8 democracy score, while Russia, China, and Iran rank among the most authoritarian. The U.S. is rated 7.9, classifying as a flawed democracy.
