New Atlas has a mean streak and Don wants out.
OFF THE BEAT gets him some fresh air.
But city boys don’t stay gone forever. 🌆

Harper Lark. Liam Riley.
Two locals Don will meet in Leery Creek during OFF THE BEAT.
He’s going there for a break. Allegedly.
Is it too much to ask to simply wish to be the one to fulfill an ancient prophecy?
I'd take pulling a sword from a stone even. Not asking for anything fancy.
Just let me walk into a village and maybe some villagers can say, "you are the one, your manners and customs were foretold."
That would be a fun Wednesday. 😕

Don has two working lives.
ILLUMINEWS is where his heart is, but his shifts at the printers pay the bills.
Unfortunately, his day job comes with a long chain of command.
At the top stands Lester T. Briggs, owner of The Titan Times.
His rule? Crush the competition.
What if purgatory is a low poly 2.5D space that we cannot see because all the people are set at 90 degree angles to us.
When you move, they adjust.
They cannot scream because they use dialogue boxes, also set to the same constraint. Someone has to click and no one does.
They could be dancing right there, in front of you and you'd never know.
Just a thought.
GM. ☕️☺️
First sensible thing I've read on X in a long time.
Guys...this applies to anything that's highly competitive.
During high school I was told repeatedly that I could do anything I wanted to do.
So I decided I wanted to be an Army Ranger.
When I got to West Point I realized that becoming an army ranger would in fact require me to be a totally different person than I actually was.
Could I have maybe willpowered my way into the ranger regiment? Probably. Would I have thrived or been successful there? Almost certainly not.
Not everyone has the chops to be a quant. Or a trader, or an I-banker, or an army ranger. The qualities and talents you need are usually innate and not things that can be forced. You either have the juice or you don't.
Play to your strengths. Figure out who you really are, and then lean into that heavily. Otherwise you're just fooling yourself.
