I have sent an open letter to YAB Dato’ Seri @anwaribrahim regarding the ongoing evictions and unnecessary brutality happening in Kampung Jalan Papan, Pandamaran, Klang.
Please repost & amplify this. The residents need Malaysia’s attention NOW.

I held a yard sale today for the fundraiser and raised about USD600. And since posting about it more people have donated in Malaysia bringing the total up to USD800. If you're outside Msia you can still help @a7medshamia by donating here

With the ceasefire imminent and a timeline for the Rafah border to reopen it's more urgent than ever to donate to @a7medshamia's fundraiser!

The few extra shirts I have are being snapped up! Someone generously donated RM600 for three shirts and two posters I have. But the chuffed fundraiser hasn't had a donation in 3 days. Can someone donate £10? chuffed.org/project/110769-h…
The new bath of t-shirts are getting silk screened by Erwn screen printing! Here they are looking gorgeous. Hoping they will be done by the end of month. I will probably mail them out after the 7th because I'm away for a work trip the 1st week of Nov. Tq for your patience!

Whether or not young people read books is irrelevant when we have created a world that punishes them no matter what they do. I hate this kind of pedestal we have put reading books on - 99% of the population used to be illiterate & the Iliad has still survived, chill tf out
I think a lot about what this did to my relationship to learning. How I didn't read for years after graduating with a degree in book reading because the experience had been so extractive and painful, how hard I have worked to reclaim this part of myself post-college.
During COVID, Columbia issued a directive for pass/fail grading across the board to account for the extraordinary circumstances. There were professors who said they would grade as usual, and only people who got As would pass. People were dying and this is what they said.
I remember one of my professors telling me that back in the 80s, he and his Columbia classmates would spend hours unscrewing the desks from classroom chairs as a prank on their professors. I laughed and thought to myself that I don't even have time to eat lunch
It's undeniable that attention spans have gone down but colleged like Columbia are fundamentally hostile to learning. The kind of pressure and demands placed on modern students are so extreme, it makes complete sense to me why they would struggle to keep track of their schoolwork
these professors act as if they are the only class students are taking - as an English major I was taking 5 classes a semester, each of which prescribed one book per week at minimum, sometimes more
What this article does not mention is the fact that Columbia's Core is exceptionally demanding- multiple instructors from non-Columbia backgrounds remarked to me that we were the only school they knew that made students read 10 books a semester for a single class
this whole article was so hilarious to me as a Columbia alum bc it was literally the core that beat my love of reading out of me. This romanticised ideal of voracious readers is devoid of the modern context of students being pushed to do 5-6 classes, join 8 clubs & 3 internships
