The new blog post on stacks is up! blogs.ethz.ch/sirawit/stacks… Although I tried to actually go and push through the details to define the notion of a stack, my understanding of moduli stacks is very insufficient, so I brought it up only vaguely, and I'll look forward to learn later!

Well at the moment I'm writing a blog post on stacks! 🤩 It's (probably) halfway done, and I take this as my self-assignment to do before I go to bed today. If I have more time I can read about moduli stacks (otherwise I'll read it tomorrow).

I’m yapping yada yada because I just woke up and went to eat something. Once I go back to my stacks and Fulton–Pandharipande I hope I can be back to focus today. I still don’t have the ability to prove statements involving line bundles, but I’m pretty “patient” with myself.

In particular, I don’t know how “line bundles” are precisely defined, and how to show the equivalence between (p : L to X) with a locally free sheaf of rank 1 on X. Well I think it’s intuitively clear, but I need to get my hands dirty on the details before claiming understanding.

In Vakil’s The Rising Sea (Ch. 17 if I remember correctly) we use Spec(Sym^•(L dual)) but I couldn’t “see” this direction. Well to be fair I still don’t know about the calligraphic Spec construction.

Again, even if my personal opinion is supportive to AI, and even if my personal position strongly disagrees with the anti-AI sentiment, I am willing to put those aside and seek for a solution of coexistence of both sides, even at the cost of giving up my own preference.

Whether you succeed in banning or supporting AI, I remain committed to the position that mathematics should be there for everyone. If the majority turns out to (democratically) ban AI, I will join them, even if that is against my ideal.

Ok. A stack is a category fibered in groupoids such that objects can be cocycle-glued (i.e. descent data are effective) and isomorphisms can be sheaf-glued.

Weirdly, I was able to focus a bit more than usual today. Now I'm reading about stacks, since my advisor told me to try to view the moduli spaces as stacks rather than coarse moduli spaces in the scheme setting as it will make things easier later.

My main reference for moduli spaces is johannesschmitt.gitlab.io/mo…, and my main reference for stacks is Stacks for Everybody by Fantechi. I'm detouring to them before going back to Fulton-Pandharipande later.
