One thing people need to understand politically about Georgia, is that there is Atlanta and then there is Georgia. Atlanta elected Keisha Lance Bottoms governor, not Georgia. Atlanta may be geographically southern, but politically, it may as well be L.A. or New York. It's that liberal a city. As an Atlanta native, I can say that, politically speaking, Atlanta is one of the most ethnically divisive (racist) cities in America. If the candidate is black and Democrat, it's a given that Atlanta voters, the majority of whom are black, will support that candidate, and primarily for those reasons alone (black and Democrat). Bottoms' horrid record as mayor Atlanta didn't matter to them. In the end, all that mattered was her melanin. And unless Republicans can find a candidate who can crack that "black code," Georgia will remain blue for many years to come.
