Palestinian journalist Mariam Abu Daqqa, killed today by an Israeli strike, had the chance to leave Gaza but chose to stay—to report and to care for her parents.
She had given a kidney to her father, while her mother, denied proper treatment, died of cancer just four months ago.
Today, Mariam, along with four other journalists and several civilians, was killed in a live-broadcast crime at Nasser Hospital.

PAKISTAN: Pakistani authorities must immediately end the shameful harassment and targeting of transgender activists in Lahore.
Law enforcement agencies unlawfully raided the homes of three transgender activists between 1 AM and 4 AM on 17 August after a criminal complaint was filed for "obscenity” against three individuals and other 50 to 60 unnamed transgender individuals based on videos disseminated online, allegedly from an event in Lahore. The detained activists were not connected to the allegations made in the police complaint but were subjected to humiliating interrogation and intimidation. While the activists have since been released, several others continue to be harassed by the police.
Amnesty International calls on the authorities in Lahore to refrain from harassment and unlawful detention of transgender activists, and drop all charges based on ambiguously worded laws on "obscenity” and discriminately applied on the basis of gender identity.
