As Jojo (a creative I admire very much) has confirmed they will be platonic in his story, it clarifies for me that there will be no romance between them, and that it should not be expected. This is a positive in that a potential romance will not be kept vague for viewership.

To be clear: the story should dictate who is fit to play the characters, the casting should NOT dictate the story. I will take Jojo at his word this is the case. The narrative impact such a decision may have is up to him, even if I would’ve made a different decision.

What his statement did for me was one thing: audiences will not be baited into watching for a potential queer romance in this show. As for everything else, nothing has changed. I hope this clears things up, and I’m honestly happy to discuss this (politely!) if not.
