I think all kinds of things are problematic and attractive and am wary of people who need to sanitize their attractions. I think lots of expressions of talent are attractive including violence like in mma but I don't need to pretend it is somehow good in every way

there is a subset of people who can't conceptualize these kinds of statements as ways of thinking about the world instead of truth claims to be accepted or rejected
I always think of this great quote from Brennan Lee Mulligan in these cases because while I feel like this principle is common sense, people still seem to assume that ideological codes/rules are so powerful that they can override a persons true beliefs.

the amount you want something can't be perfectly discerned by the amount of effort you are able to put in . there is almost nothing I love more than dancing and poetry and I will never forgot my mom going "if it is this hard for you to do it you must not really want to"
Y'all need to shut tf up. For the past 18 years I've picked myself up, worked hard to get better, forced myself to do stuff to find joy in doing them again. And every time this fucking desease throws me back into that dark hole. This is NOT just a matter of wanting. Fuck you.

when I believed my desire for something was equal to the effort I was able to put in and I couldn't bring myself to do anything I figured I did not really want anything...

Earnestly feel like a lot of life has been me trying to hide some delicate little secret sphere from the world that desperately wants me to stomp on it to prove something to them and the effort alone has put tons of cracks in it...
Boys seem to nearly universally - usually in their early teenage years - experience something that breaks their hearts in such a specific way as to emotionally cauterize them. So many of them go from being sweet little guys to internally numbed, externally nonchalant performers.

people see no risk in telling depressed people they need to make some kind of clear decision on whether they are going to fix their depression or just die is wild to me because black and white thinking is already a problem....like....

everyday I learn something new and horrifying. an examined life is not worth living.

the way these ex-depressed folk talk about depressed people lacks basic empathy and makes me wonder how many of y'all just hate the past you who was (more) depressed.

the idea that people in worse conditions than you are all simply not trying is a very convenient thing to believe. maybe too convenient, even.

people begin by heavily implying that mental disorders are a product of weakness and laziness and that you merely have to decide to reject victimhood to be better and when they get called out they pretend they just meant the sun helps with depression

if you got on this app to say that depression can be helped by things like exercise and sunlight and trying out activities you enjoy then congratulations for stating the obvious everyone already knows, consider why people might think you mean something else

i dont like the conversation around that one tweet abt depression recovery advice. "you have to choose to get better" implies people are choosing not to. for some of us its not even a choice we get.

wish the people posting about depression would consider that people with depression aren't idiots and post accordingly...

super happy for the people for whom imagining a better life and attempting to actualize that was entirely enough to fix their depression but if that was my main coping strategy I would actually end it
17
"you have to decide you want to get better" is trivial and patronizing and mostly functions as a way to ignore the real barriers that people face. it is one teeny point above calling people lazy because at least it is true but they both function as empty words we can gesture to

if every solution you construct for everyone's problems always requires them to put in mountain's of non-specific psychic work to deserve well-being maybe your model for human well-being is broken.

some of you are the same people who used to tell the high school girls they had to stop self-harming before they could get them any help for... self-harming
