I have gotten some of the dumbest cultural analysis in my mentions today. Right-wing people can comprehend art that's fiction. That's most movies and literature. No one is disputing the merits of the Godfather or Crime and Punishment. Harry Potter fanfic is not in the same category.

The campfire tale, the tall tale, the bar tale, "fanfiction" and great novels are all ways in which people participate in telling stories together. If you want a culture that appreciates "high art" it needs to also participate in "low art"

One of the most influential modern stories is Lord of the Rings and it started off as a father telling his children stories and engaging with his love for language. Shakespeare's plays are bawdy tales meant to entertain the masses.

Like it or not, Harry Potter is what little shared culture we have left. I don't like it by the way. But that hardly matters when it comes to the manifestation of viral cultural phenomena. The vehicles for this are extremely limited.

Demons in Freiren are annoying because how they’re portrayed in the story brings up the question if predators are inherently evil for hunting prey and instead of saying or doing anything with that the show opts to treat them like orcs from lord of the rings.
