With so many divorced and remarried people in the church today, apparently putting your wife out to pasture is more acceptable than keeping the wife of your youth AND committing to another woman. 🤔 Churches that welcome divorce and remarriage but condemn plural marriage essentially tell men it’s more acceptable to replace their wife than to keep loving her, keep providing for her, and also commit to another. Discard her? We can work with that. Keep your commitment to both? Now you’ve crossed the line. How did breaking one commitment become easier to accept than honoring two? Exodus protects the first wife’s provision and marital rights when a man takes another wife. His responsibilities to her continue. No retirement pasture. No trading her in like aging livestock. No expiration date on his commitment. But modern church logic? “You can’t have two in the barn. Better turn the first one loose.” Then they climb into the pulpit and preach about protecting women and preserving families. Apparently the sacred part is the head count.
