Meet Theodoros Simakou @UofGEngineering @UofGlasgow. He recently joined our @HorizonEU @EUeic project and is developing osteogenic & adipogenic cultures with minicells.
“Strong potential from biomedical research to the food industry, and therapeutics.”
Welcome to the team! 👋
Maria Clara Gomes from @UnivAveiro (@ciceco_ua @COMPASS_RG) and, with her team, is exploring alternative approaches to engineered living materials for bone marrow models and #CultivatedMeat.
“A great opportunity to help create a new field,” she says.
Manuel Salmerón-Sánchez @UofGEngineering explains how, in our @HorizonEU @EUeic project, their team is engineering bacteria to produce growth factors that guide stem cells. 🇪🇺
The goal is to support better bone marrow models and #CultivatedMeat, in collaboration with @CELLINK3D.

The @EUeic Engineered Living Materials portfolio’s “ELMs LCA Starter Kit” (ELM-LCAKit) was selected for funding! 🇪🇺 ✅ This project will develop shared, early-stage LCA guidelines tailored to the unique challenges of #EngineeredLivingMaterials. Thank you to everyone involved 🙌
The ELM-LCAKit will also create a common methodological framework; practical resources and templates to support sustainability assessment; and recommendations to strengthen comparability and future standardisation across the field.
#LifeCycleAssessement
This initiative comes from the ELM Portfolio’s Environment & Sustainability Working Group and is lead by our #HorizonEU project in collaboration with Fungateria, @NextSkinsELMs, and REMEDY EIC.
