What if we just went back to reading a bunch of books and thinking about them together, and that was the class? With syllabi no longer than three pages.

“MAID” leaves out the agency of the patient. It is the perfect acronym for our future of coercive medical murders. Humane people need to plan ahead for their loved ones and themselves.
My "hot take" is that "Medical Aid in Dying" is a clever way of dodging the distinction between Physician Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia. The difference matters.

This is a genuinely interesting story. Huge amount of automated work, potentially saving hundreds of thousands of human hours. BUT: with an error rate of 10%, and with the precise reading of *every* word mattering in such an exercise, it is meaningless, and for manuscripts of authority worse than useless, without a human checking every single word. BUT: there simply aren't people, in 2026, with the expertise, the time, and the funding to check these 32,000 manuscripts at this level. Welcome to Digital Humanities Slop.

There's a pavement near me which the tree roots have seriously raised up. One has to step over it. Many councils would consider chopping the tree down. Instead, why not fill the area with bountiful planting and create a pavement bypass. More function and more beauty.

remember the biggest threat is not that we will see machines as humans but that we we start to see humans as machines
Sam Altman wants you to think about how much energy it takes to “train a human.” His remarks are symbolic of everything wrong with the AI industry, Matteo Wong argues: theatlantic.com/technology/2…

A mesmerising film from 1900. A tram glides through Southampton High Street, pulling you into late Victorian life as it passes under the medieval Bargate and down the street.

Calling dads! I am so excited to share this news. For months I have been telling you that the “dad’s study” is underway—it really is! We have conducted fifteen pilot interviews within a three-hour drive of the DMV region. We have cleaned up transcripts, looked for common threads, and refined our questions. We ready to hit the road and visit with dads all around the country. Please help us cast the widest net by sharing this call for subjects here on X and in your local networks and other socials, especially if you have contacts in one of our ten regions (below). Men beyond those regions may apply, and will be considered as research needs indicate. Continue reading for the full invitation and link to application. Let’s go! __ Attention families with 5+ children! We are inviting all American-born fathers who have 5 or more biological (or adopted) children to apply for our upcoming study “America’s Dads with the Most Kids: Motive and Meaning.” The purpose of this research is to understand why some American dads are choosing to build large, abundant families, and to learn from them what it takes to get there. To apply to participate in a private, in person, open-ended interview, please fill out the following survey: forms.gle/hz3GzARcLA12L45n9. We are looking for participants especially in the following cities which we will visit in person. If you or someone you know lives in one of these areas, please forward this post or the survey link directly: New York City metropolitan area, NY-NJ-CT Chattanooga-Cleveland-Dalton, TN-OH Denver-Aurora, CO Chicago–Naperville, IL–IN–WI Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington, TX San Francisco Bay Area, CA Phoenix-Scottsdale metropolitan area, AZ Salt Lake City-Provo-Orem, UT Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL Washington-Baltimore-Arlington, DC-MD-VA-WV-PA Again, please fill out the following survey to apply to offer your perspectives on fatherhood in a private interview: forms.gle/hz3GzARcLA12L45n9.

One of my 2025 highlights was a week of rafting on the Colorado River through Grand Canyon. Grateful to my dad for letting me accompany him on one of his most-cherished "bucket list" items. The trip inspired me to read this (excellent) book about hiking the Grand Canyon. Next-level stuff: a.co/d/02XSlX8

The Stoics have wisdom for many things—but not everything. 📜 In his new @LawLiberty piece, @prof_tom_ward looks to the medieval philosopher Boethius to help us think about the modern technology of loneliness. 🔗lawliberty.org/stoicism-and-…
