Pretty sure this place was in an X-Files episode around the middle of Season 3.
Federal employee retirements are processed using paper, by hand, in an old limestone mine in Pennsylvania. 700+ mine workers operate 230 feet underground to process ~10,000 applications per month, which are stored in manila envelopes and cardboard boxes. The retirement process takes multiple months.
I could get behind these.

With public approval of higher education at record lows, the “demographic cliff” in college enrollment looming, and a red wave in the most recent election, writing an essay trumpeting the redefinition of your discipline in explicitly far-left terms seems little short of suicidal.

Good point.
I asked @elonmusk to put me in charge of cutting the Pentagon. And he said - what are your suggestions? I run the largest left-wing network online and a Democratic leader has NEVER asked me that question. The idea that they would take advice from a populist is disdainful to them.
