I’m excited to share that I’m going back to @UCLAFSPH, rejoining my academic home, Community Health Sciences. The past year at Arkansas has been unbelievable and I’m grateful to my amazing colleagues for accomplishing so much together. Can’t wait to start this next chapter!

I heard @dfenton this morning state something very simple yet profound. “It’s not individuals who spread disinformation on social media, it’s the platforms themselves and their use of an algorithm that amplifies it, all for profit.” #healthcomm

My 6 y/o: Hey dad, you know what the most important thing is when you’re on a bike? Me: What’s that? 6 y/o: Balance! Me: That sounds important. 6 y/o: Yep, and in life too. Me: What’s that? 6 y/o: Balance! It’s really important. 👏👏👏 Happy Sunday!

I have enjoyed gardening this year as a somewhat new hobby. The extreme summer heat and June/July drought in Arkansas pretty much wiped out my vegetable garden. But I’m happy to see the dahlias survived and oh what a beautiful sight. Happy Friday!

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but please do not request letters of recommendation during the initial application process for faculty positions - TT, NTT, it doesn’t matter. This is a waste of everyone’s time.

As an elder millennial who came of age when Google became a verb, I had difficulty grasping that ~40% of Gen Zers use TikTok for search. So I hosted a mini-focus group with Gen Zers to learn more. Here are 3 takeaways:

I want to say I had a surprising experience today at the pediatrician. I had to ask staff, who were doing measurements etc, to please wear a mask as our 2-week-old daughter was, well, only 2 weeks old. After they returned with a mask I thanked them, and the visit proceeded.

The pediatrician was masked today. Though at our one week appointment, which was last week, they were not. My wife and I are sleep deprived. We are also caring for our 6yo and 3yo. We are doing the best we can. Pediatric offices, please be nimble. Please use masks…

…to protect the most vulnerable. Please don’t put it on us to ask you to wear masks. Let’s practice universal precautions. Let’s wear masks when there is a new wave of infection, and our children remain most at risk. I want to say I was surprised.
