So I have to grab my recipe books and walk you through all of our seasonal dishes? I have to transcribe the lyrics to hymns? Just for you to believe that we know what the four seasons are? And in your mind, this demand is good for your argument?

Explain to me how a pre-modern society could cook food with ingredients that are out of season. Obviously our cuisine reflects and symbolizes the seasons. Every single thing added to the list of “what it means for japan to have four seasons” is yet another thing that we also do

I’m not trying to do a gotcha at all. You said that the characters in mean streets are portrayed positively so I’m trying to get a sense of how well you can read a film for tone.

Just want to check something. Would you say that Jordan Belfort is presented heroically in the Wolf of Wall Street?

Everytime I watch a classic horror film I think. Why isnt this 8 hours long with a cliffhanger every hour?
HBO is officially developing ‘THE BIRDS’, a new series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's film. Starring Sarah Snook, the series is a modern-day reimagining of the film set in Alaska with a murder mystery at the center. (Source: Deadline)

The movie wants you to reframe how you see the violence. The intended effect is sentimentality. That’s completely different from Scorsese throwing Please Mr. Postman over a bar brawl.

Do you think I dislike the film?

No, it’s because the audience is also supposed to feel it.

You’re way off the mark to say that about me bud

Nah sorry, all that shit matters. If the rest of the movie that surrounds that scene didn’t exist you’d be right. It is sincere because it represents what the characters feel, and we are supposed to feel it with them. It looks like an ironic needle drop but it’s not.

What is the scene about? What emotions are the characters feeling? Kris and Little Death. Is anyone actually being killed? What are slasher movies standing in for, in the narrative? Like it’s just a really sincere scene and understanding that is the key to the whole movie.

A lot is packed in. Like, you can tell her basic personality is kind because of Del Toro’s performance. He smiles warmly at her, which tells us a ton about how people view her and how we should feel about her.
