Congratulations to our AI research team on 2 papers accepted at @NeurIPSConf 2026 🎉
2x accepted papers, MetaLoop and Theory of Mind and Persuasion Beyond Conversation, plus a workshop paper being presented at BiAlign Workshop.
Authenticity checks are now available to use with LimeSurvey and Pavlovia in addition to @Qualtrics.
This includes both LLM and bot detection. Check our guide to see how you can get trusted data from the next study you launch.
Authenticity checks available with LimeSurvey and Pavlovia | Prolific
Prolific's authenticity checks for LLM and bot detection in research are now available to use with LimeSurvey and Pavlovia in addition to Qualtrics. Find out more on the Help Center.
Changing minds and driving action are different jobs. Kobi and the team show it with real petitions and real donations from almost 15K participants (via Prolific), the latest in a series of AI persuasion studies. Insights from the study below ↓
New in @PNASNews:
In two large experiments (~18k obs from ~14.8k people), we find that brief conversations with AI can get people to take real political action - incl. signing real petitions and giving money to charity.
Surprisingly, the persuasion strategy that worked best for changing people's attitudes - packing convos with info - was the least effective at changing behavior!

We’ll also be presenting our workshop paper “Mirroring Is Not Sycophancy” at the BiAlign Workshop.
Across 125,000+ human-AI conversations and audits of 16 models, how much a model mirrors your style does not predict whether it changes its position under pressure.

Looking forward to connecting with the AI community this December.

Beca Almeida sees AI shaping research across four areas: creating surveys, AI interviews, acting as respondent, and synthesizing findings. Her take is that none of it replaces the researcher, just frees up their time.
Watch her discussion with Olivier Toubia and @orioljbosch.
The present and future of synthetic data in research | The Signal
Beca Almeida, Founder of Doppel Market, sees AI reshaping research across four areas: creating surveys, AI interviews, acting as respondent, and synthesizing findings. Full discussion on The Signal.
Digital twins are being sold as a faster, cheaper alternative to live participants. On Nov 4, @andrew_j_gordon presents two studies on how accurate twins are and how the people behind them feel about it.

🚨 New paper 🚨
Are your participants or annotators using AI to complete your tasks?
We conducted the first study directly observing AI assistance across 700K+ @Prolific submissions.
We found rare, concentrated AI use, but gaps in safeguards.

Today, "is this data even human?" is one of the first things researchers want to know.
Pleased to see @Prolific featured in @Forbes recently, with a few important words from our VP of Prolific for Research, Frankie.

Are your participants using AI to take your study?
We conducted the first study directly observing AI assistance in online research, spanning 700K+ Prolific submissions.

Most AI systems never flag when they’re guessing, they just answer regardless.
Beca Almeida built Doppel Market to fix that. When a twin has low confidence, it routes the question back to the real person instead of filling it in blindly.

Use of Doppels | The Signal
Most AI systems never tell you when they’re guessing. They just give you an answer either way. Beca Almeida and Olivier Toubia discuss this with Prolific on The Signal.
A new @Forbes piece stresses that authenticity is the real currency of AI research.
Our VP of Prolific for Research, Frankie Bryant: “Platforms that can’t answer [whether their data is human] with certainty are a liability."

🤖 Will digital twins ever replace human research participants?
This question seems to be everywhere at the moment.
So for the latest episode of The Signal, I sat down with Olivier Toubia and Beca Almeida to get to the bottom of it 🧵
Will digital twins ever replace human participants?
Olivier Toubia (@Columbia_Biz) and Beca Almeida (Founder, Doppel Market) join @orioljbosch on The Signal to dig into what digital twins get right, and where they fall short.

NEW: Approving Jackdaw and Rosebank isn't unpopular. So why has the decision been pushed past the Holborn & St Pancras by-election?
Our new @Prolific polling points to one group of voters.
Support approving at least one of the two projects:
All UK adults: 67%
Labour leaners: 59%
Green leaners: 40%
And if they're approved, how would people see @andyburnham?
Labour leaners: 25% more favourably, 18% less
Green leaners: 11% more favourably, 49% less
A modest upside with @UKLabour's own voters. A much bigger downside with the voters @ZackPolanski needs, in a seat Labour is defending next Thursday.
We can't tell you why the timetable was chosen. We can show why waiting is the lower-risk option.
Caveats: this is a national poll, not a constituency poll. Green leaners n=160, so treat the exact figures as directional. And "less favourably" isn't the same as switching your vote.
Write-up, full tables and questionnaire below.
Glad to have joined forces with @AgenticAIFdn last night. Our VP of Engineering Helin spoke on trajectory capture and human feedback alongside speakers from @GoogleDeepMind, @imperialcollege/@Cohere, @PhysicsxAI and @Vercel. 🤝
Thanks to all who spoke and joined us!
