On 2 December, Abu Dhabi turns 55.
A hundred years ago this coast traded pearls. Today its sovereign funds hold 1.7 trillion dollars, more than any other city on earth. "The Capital of Capital" was never a slogan here. It is the status quo.
For fifty years that capital flowed outward and built things somewhere else. Now the direction has reversed. In a world splitting into blocs, Abu Dhabi has become the one address all sides still take the meeting.
The building we are borrowing, the Louvre, argues it better than we can. The first universal museum in the Arab world, built on a single idea: every civilisation belongs in the same room.
That is also our idea. Smaller room. Same conviction.
We were met with open arms. We intend to leave this city better than we found it, starting with the quality of the conversations held inside it.
On 3 December, we open the doors at the Louvre.
