Let's also keep in mind that we just dodged a bullet with one of the biggest internet vulnerabilities we have ever seen. And they STILL want to risk your safety with digital ID.
We warned that a social media ban would force digital ID and biometric scans just to go online. Now Ofcom has confirmed it. To prove you're over 16, Ofcom recommends methods like banking checks and facial age estimation. All of this invasive infrastructure - and they STILL admit "the risk of circumvention cannot be entirely eliminated, and some children will succeed in bypassing age checks". The death of online anonymity will come at the expense of a policy that doesn't even work.

This isn’t about under 16’s. It’s controlling all adults, removing their anonymity and tracking us all. It’s a deeply sinister move wrapped up in the rhetoric of “keeping the kids safe”

Under the UK's new law, someone who lawfully purchased consensually produced adult content in 2025 could face criminal liability for keeping the same content after November 6, 2026, even if they bought it directly from the performers depicted. The maximum penalty is two years' imprisonment. Adults producing content with other consenting adults and selling it to consenting adults is now a crime in the UK if the content is not approved by the paternalistic government. The parliamentary record identifies several important lobbying organizations: End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW) UK Feminista Centre to End All Sexual Exploitation (CEASE) CARE (Christian Action Research and Education) As usual, the radical feminist organizations have colluded with the Christian right to control what consenting adults buy from other consenting adults to watch in their own homes. Well done.

If you have a video on your phone of you covering your partners mouth whilst having sex you can now go to prison for two years from November 6th... This is actually completely insane and not British. It's a serious abuse of power and massive overreach. Every MP who passed that bill needs to give their head a wobble.
I'm sorry but this is absolutely fucking ridiculous. I thought it was a joke. The concept of going to prison for being in 'possession' of facesitting porn. 😭😭😭

This is insanity. You're going to need ID to access ordinary social media. To read political content on X, or watch videos on TikTok, you'll need to prove your age by giving over identification documents. How are we seriously considering this?!
Social media users may be required to have photo ID to prove their age when Labour’s ban for under-16s comes into force next spring, Ofcom has said. The regulator said that current facial age checks used widely by the social media platforms were not accurate enough to confirm whether a child was over 16⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

On top of this, those who lack any valid form of ID - or rightly do not want to hand over their information to tech companies - will be shut out of the online world entirely. This is a catastrophic policy that won't work.

This will likely mean that many disabled people are completely excluded from social media by the way. As a blind person I know firsthand that these ridiculous methods are completely inaccessible.
🚨 NEW: Ofcom says all adults should have to use their ID to access social media. • Ofcom has recommended four methods for verifying users’ ages ahead of the UK’s ban on social media for under-16s, which is due to come into force in March next year. • The four methods suggested, subject to government approval, are photo ID matching, banking-based checks, live facial age estimation and digital ID. • The regulator noted that verifying the ages of 16 and 17-year-olds is challenging because many do not have credit cards, full driving licences or passports. • Ofcom chief executive Dame Melanie Dawes said the ban can work if firms carry out highly effective age checks, and that the regulator will take action against companies that fail to comply.

Burnham's promises to scrap the scheme were hollow. Ofcom (@Ofcom) still intend to mandate that government issued ID is shown to access the majority of sites the public uses in Britain. Essentially, doxxing every user to the government and site. Say NO to digital ID.
Didn't take long for Burnham's pledge to scrap digital ID (@NoToDigitalID) to be revealed as entirely hollow. Showing your passport as a prerequisite to engage with the online world is still remains state policy. The solution was never digital ID requirements (doxxing of every user) as mandatory for every internet user in the UK and her territories. In reality, the solution was not this – it was having the family computer in the living room or the kitchen, and giving your child a nokia, rather than an Android. Standing on the graves of children and reaching for the tools of censorship will always be seen for what it is. The only antidote to the multi-faceted censorship state in Britain is low-tech approaches to parenting, and passing the @ASI Freedom of Speech Bill: adamsmith.org/research/the-f…
