I wrote a quick post on the problems with being an "engineering-driven company", and why one of the best decisions we made early on was never to hire engineers who looked down on their peers in sales/marketing.

This was one of the toughest things for me to learn on my first Agile team, as @ptevis may remember. I was so acculturated to cmd/ctrl style management that i assumed that "self-management" couldn't possibly work. Take it to the mgr was my first instinct. 1/

The evidence so far suggests that a full vaccine dose:
1. effectively eliminates the risk of Covid death
2. nearly eliminates the risk of hospitalization
3. drastically reduces the ability to infect somebody else.
All of that is also true about the virus variants.

I’ve noticed that with every killing of an unarmed black person, there are white folks who decide that they want to “fight racism.”
I’m not here tryna kill your vibe, I’m happy you’re here, but it’s also time for some honesty. So let’s sit down and have a chat.

...then the Black Gate opened, and forth came no Ring-Wraith, but a living man, the Mouth of Sauron. 'Greetings,' he cried. 'I bring a short statement affirming the Dark Tower's commitment to prompt customer service as we face the challenge of responding to COVID-19 together...'

Act as if everything you do now right now matters. Not just for yourself, but for everyone around you. That's what we have to do in the face of this uncertainty.

You know how when you lose power, they there's an increase in babies born 9 months later?
I project there's going to be a significant increase in divorces and breakups from #COVID19 due to partners having to work from home together over long periods of time.

Pull requests add overhead to cope with low-trust situations, e.g. to allow people you don't know to offer contributions to your project.
Imposing pull requests on devs in your own team is like making your family go through an airport security checkpoint to enter your home.

Here's something I've been studying on here for a bit. A lot of men, seem to have been conditioned to think that telling someone that you disagree is the same as asking them a question. Like the way they learn to engage is by *creating a conflict*.

The goal of One Child's Heart is teaching empathy. To let people know it's okay when you can't do anything to fix the situation. You can be present & help someone feel less alone. It's about the power of compassion over judgement. kickstarter.com/projects/cam…
