pumpcat: a trojan horse for mainstream crypto adoption
memecoins are fundamentally backwards
we have an industry obsessed with onboarding the next hundred million users, yet almost every project is competing for attention from the exact same audience.
everyone is fighting for a larger slice of the pie. very few are thinking about how to make the pie bigger.
enter pumpcat.
for the past month, we've been secretly growing a tiktok account centred around a cute cat in a business suit. to the average viewer, it's simply entertaining content, but underneath that, we've gradually been introducing @Pumpfun imagery, branding, and references into the character's universe.
the majority of viewers probably don't even recognize the association. but soon they will.
attention is the real currency
most memecoins launch a token and then try to manufacture attention around it, or they focus on the wrong audience (cryptards)
we're approaching it from the opposite direction.
build the character.
capture the attention.
establish the cultural association.
you don't need to understand crypto to appreciate pumpcat.
you don't need a wallet, you don't need to know what a bonding curve is
and you certainly don't need to trade memecoins.
you just need to like cats.
that gives us access to an audience exponentially larger than the existing crypto-native demographic.
and unlike traditional marketing, an entertaining character has the potential to become its own organic distribution engine.
the psychology behind it:
there's a well-established concept in psychology called the mere-exposure effect.
repeated exposure to something can increase people's familiarity and preference for it, especially when that exposure happens in a positive context.
that's essentially the experiment we're running.
people discover pumpcat because they enjoy the content. over time, they become familiar with its visual identity, language, and recurring references to pumpfun.
to crypto natives, the association is obvious.
to everyone else, it's just part of the cat's personality.
but eventually, when someone encounters pumpfun elsewhere, there's an opportunity for that previously established familiarity to translate into recognition and curiosity.
we're building cultural recognition before asking for financial attention.
that's a pretty interesting inversion of the traditional crypto marketing funnel.
the bigger picture:
the real opportunity here extends beyond pumpcat itself.
pumpfun already has significant mindshare within crypto. the challenge is penetrating mainstream internet culture, where the average person has little reason to care about token launchpads.
pumpcat offers a potential bridge between those two worlds.
people can follow, share, and engage with pumpcat without ever touching a token.
that independent appeal is precisely what makes the distribution valuable.
obviously, attention doesn't automatically translate into adoption. but if even a small percentage of a genuinely mainstream audience eventually becomes curious about pumpfun , the potential is meaningful.
most projects are trying to make their memecoin go viral.
we're trying to make something viral that introduces people to the memecoin ecosystem.
this distinction is a lot more important than people realize.
pure pumpfun propaganda
