Mei Mei the parakeet finds forever home after life on run in NYC: 'Happy ending for her' trib.al/2ZvQMiP
🔊 Mei Mei the Parakeet in her quarantine cage eating millet. She also has seeds & fresh water. She's tired & we are resting quietly. Can't wait till the day she's rehomed in an aviary & can fly & play w/other birds. Updates tk on insta: @ r2junot.
I rescued Mei Mei the Parakeet just after 9am today Wed 10/29. Took her to CAEM (avian vet) but they advise a prelim quarantine as I expected. Home safe w/me now. Couldn't have done this w/out @BagelsAndWalks & so many others. It took a village. Goal = rehome to budgie aviary.
Cont Great Horned Owl seen Saturday 11/30 in Central Park. Thanks to Bruce Yolton for showing me this GHO which he found by tracking sign (whitewash).
2 Fox Sparrows seen 2:30pm Wed 11/13 in the Central Park Ramble. They were eating sunflower seeds left on pedestrian path by someone who may not know 1. these shells = toxic trash 2. drawing birds to paths puts them at risk 3. birds already have enough naturally available food.
Woodland birbs seen 1:30pm Wed 11/13 in the Central Park Ramble, CW from TL: Golden-crowned Kinglet, Titmouse; Black-capped Chickadee; Carolina Wren.
Continuing American Kestrel Horus seen 11:30am Wed 11/13 in Central Park, L: perched on Cleopatra's Needle; R: mobbed by Grackles & a brave little Junco who kind of stayed behind the Grackles.
Cont juv Red-tailed Hawk seen 11:45am-12:15pm Wed 11/13 on Central Park's Great Lawn & by the Met. He claimed then ditched a dropped/cached carcass on the BF2 backstop then flew to the Met. This is George's baby boy which means the TCC fam is now hunting in Octavia's territory.
Adult Red-tailed Hawk seen 3:45pm Mon 11/11 just S of Central Park’s Polish Statue. Perched briefly before flying to 79th Trans cliff & further S to E side of Ramble. Lotta hawks around lately, more than I can count.
Territorial Red-tailed Hawk drama seen 1:30pm-1:55pm Mon 11/11 S (& SE) of the @metmuseum, CW from TL: cont juv hunting S of the Met; cont OG Octavia on 980 5th Ave watching juv flee S; Octavia + mate defending their Central Park/5th Ave territory (Met-Cedar Hill-Pilgrim Hill).
Orange-crowned Warbler seen 9:40am Wed 10/30 at Central Park's Shakespeare Garden. Ty to epic birder Zohara for spotting & for noticing the dude trying (& failing) to steal my bag. Lessons learned: OCWA ID dealbreaker = yellow undertail coverts & never put your bag down in NYC.
