QUEEN MAEVE won a half decent race for the Skeltons last time out. Can anything beat her in today’s line up or is she a solid bet?
I’ve had a go on HORNICA…
Who do you think takes this one guys 🐎🧐👇

TUESDAY free tips ✅🐎
Good morning guys - few tips for today.
Quite a few more in the tracker but sticking with these. RULE ME IN quite short but not had a better chance to win than today for a while!
1.46 BANGOR ON DEE - AIRE SPRAY 13/2 - 0.5 EW
A decent horse that can handle these conditions if fit back after his break. Proven at this trip, his best win came over the distance in February. He’s 4lbs higher than that win but can’t be ruled out here and looks fair value at nearly 7/1.
2.46 BANGOR ON DEE - HORNICA 6/1 - 0.5 EW
HORNICA won nicely when last seen in April and that form has since been strongly franked. Todays extended trip should play into her strengths as she returns from a wind op running from the same mark as her recent win with the benefit of Beau Morgans 5lbs claim. Skeltons fav QUEEN MAEVE is the one to beat here, she won a class 1 race herself in April and although that was her first win, it was unlikely to be a fluke.

A horse can look smart over hurdles and then find life much harder once it goes chasing, and it usually comes down to the obstacles.
Hurdles are lower and give a little if a horse clips the top. Fences are at least 4ft 6in on the take-off side, built from packed birch, and they don't move. Chasing rewards accurate, economical jumping as much as speed, and one bad mistake can cost lengths or end the race.
With the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on Saturday, I've put together a plain-English guide to the difference: obstacle heights, how many you jump in a two-mile race, why most horses start over hurdles, and how it all shows up in the form.

Pebbles (1981–2005) remains one of Britain’s most celebrated racehorses, a filly whose international triumphs and historic firsts defined her as a pioneer. Foaled on February 27, 1981, bred by Marcos Lemos at Warren Hill Stud and sired by Sharpen Up out of La Dolce, Pebbles was trained by Clive Brittain at Newmarket. Her career, with 8 wins from 15 starts, showcased exceptional speed and resilience, earning her an enduring legacy.
Pebbles debuted impressively at two, winning the 1983 Lowther Stakes (Group 2). Her three-year-old season in 1984 saw her claim the 1,000 Guineas, defeating Meis-El-Reem and future Arc winner Rainbow Quest, followed by the Coronation Stakes. At four, she made history in 1985 as the first filly to win the Eclipse Stakes, beating colts Rainbow Quest and Chief Singer by three lengths. Her pinnacle came in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Aqueduct, defeating Strawberry Road in record time, becoming the first British-trained horse to win a Breeders’ Cup race. Her earnings totaled approximately $1.8 million (£1.2 million), a significant sum for the era.
Renowned for her explosive turn of foot, Pebbles excelled over 7 furlongs to 1m4f, though longer distances tested her limits; she was not entered in the 1984 Oaks due to ownership conflicts after Sheikh Mohammed’s purchase. Brittain’s bold transatlantic campaign for the Breeders’ Cup highlighted her adaptability, earning her the 1985 Eclipse Award for Champion Female Turf Horse.
Retired in July 1986 due to injury, Pebbles became a broodmare, initially at Dalham Hall Stud, producing 11 foals with modest success (two winners). Exported to Japan in 1996, she retired from breeding in 2002 and died on September 9, 2005. Her Eclipse and Breeders’ Cup victories broke gender and geographic barriers, paving the way for British horses abroad.
Pebbles’ blend of Classic wins and international firsts cemented her as a trailblazer. Her courage and versatility continue to inspire, ensuring her place as a titan of British racing history.
Monday football round-up
Man Utd: Sunday's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth makes it eight without a win in all competitions, and Michael Carrick left Bruno Fernandes on the bench for the full 90 after the captain criticised his tactics following the 4-1 loss at Como. The Guardian report the board are holding crisis talks over Carrick's future, with Eddie Howe the top candidate for director of football Jason Wilcox, and Sky Sports report Howe would be open to talks. Nothing confirmed yet, but it's hard to see Carrick surviving many more afternoons like that.
Liverpool: 2-0 over Brighton, their first home league win under Andoni Iraola. Isak has now scored in three straight Premier League games and is on six for the season, behind only Haaland's nine. One to keep an eye on is Florian Wirtz, who went off with an ankle knock.
Man City v Brighton twice this week: Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Premier League on Saturday. Marc Guehi's form has been a talking point, but Enzo Maresca told BBC Sport he's "not worried at all".
Does Carrick get another game?

🏇💰 10/1 INTO 5/1… SOMEBODY MUST KNOW SOMETHING!
How many times have you heard that? 😂
A horse suddenly shortens dramatically in the betting and everyone starts talking about how strongly it’s fancied.
But here’s the thing…
Just because a horse has been heavily backed doesn’t automatically make it a good bet.
For me, the most important question is whether the price still represents value.
A horse that looked interesting at 10/1 might not be anywhere near as attractive at 5/1.
So what’s your approach to market movers?
🏇 Follow the money?
📊 Trust your own form study?
🤔 A mixture of both?

This morning's 7am article is a back-to-basics one: what National Hunt racing actually is. Hurdles, chases and bumpers, when the season really starts and finishes, and what makes a horse a novice. One that catches people out: a horse that hadn't won over hurdles before the season started stays a novice hurdler for the whole season, even if it wins along the way.
With the Charlie Hall at Wetherby and the Champion Chase at Down Royal both on Saturday, it's a good week to get the basics straight if you're newer to the jumps.
If you've followed the jumps for years, what took you longest to get your head round?

Worth checking trainer form before you dig into today's jumps cards: a yard with two winners from 20 can still be in good order if most of the rest ran close to their marks.

Alpinista (2017–2022) stands as one of Britain’s most accomplished modern racehorses, a mare whose meteoric rise and international triumphs cemented her as a racing icon. Foaled in 2017, bred by Kirsten Rausing and sired by Frankel out of Alwilda, Alpinista was trained by Sir Mark Prescott at Newmarket. Her career, marked by 10 wins from 15 starts, culminated in a historic 2022 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe victory, showcasing her brilliance against the world’s elite.
Alpinista’s racing journey began modestly, winning a maiden race at two, but she blossomed at three and four, stringing together an extraordinary sequence of six consecutive Group 1 victories from 2021 to 2022. Her triumphs included the 2021 Yorkshire Oaks, Grosser Preis von Berlin, Preis von Europa, Grosser Preis von Bayern, and two runnings of the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. The pinnacle came in the 2022 Arc, where, at 17/2 odds, she outclassed colts like Vadeni and Torquator Tasso, becoming the first British-trained mare to win Europe’s premier race since Urban Sea in 1993. Her £4.5 million in earnings underscored her commercial success.
Under Prescott’s patient training, Alpinista’s style blended tactical speed and relentless stamina, thriving over middle distances. Her ability to quicken on rain-soaked Longchamp turf in the Arc highlighted her versatility and grit, earning her widespread admiration. Despite a setback in the 2020 Oaks (where she finished unplaced), her resilience and consistent improvement defined her career.
Retired in 2022 after a minor injury, Alpinista’s legacy endures through her potential as a broodmare at Lanwades Stud. Her Arc victory elevated British racing’s global prestige and inspired a new generation of fillies. As one of only three mares to win the Arc in the past 30 years, Alpinista’s name is etched in history alongside legends like Enable. Her story of perseverance, tactical brilliance, and international dominance ensures her place as a modern titan of the Turf, celebrated for redefining what a British mare can achieve.
This morning's 7am article is on trainer form: how to tell whether a yard is actually running well, rather than just following the big names.
Strike rate only tells you part of it. A stable that runs mostly in big-field handicaps can go a fortnight with one or two winners and still be in excellent form, because its horses keep finishing second, third and fourth. The piece covers Racing Post's RTF% figure, why the number of runners behind it matters, and why a quiet yard in the autumn isn't always out of form.
Do you check trainer form before anything else, or only when something catches your eye?
