Massachusetts has opened applications for Build for Mass, a $75 million infrastructure and clean energy loan program. Gateway Cities, including Worcester, and rural communities receive priority. No Worcester award was identified in the announcement.

Yesterday, a majority of dining workers at @Harvard voted to authorize a strike. The workers' union contract expired in June, & a strike can be called by the bargaining committee at any time. Workers are fighting for wages that keep pace with the cost of living in Greater Boston.

Reminder that Columbus Day was a way to get Italian Americans to shut up without actually acknowledging their contributions or strife. There were plenty of genuine Italian American icons that could have been chosen, but most were labor leaders or activists the US government had already stigmatized as anarchists or criminals. So instead of conceding any past injustices, they went with a guy born before Italian unification, who sailed under a Spanish flag, and died in disgrace after his own country discovered his crimes
