A reason why organisers book newer DJs for opening sets is risk aversion. If the energy derails in an opening set, the next DJ can ramp it up. However most organizers here don't give opening sets enough time. Why is an opening DJ playing a 1hr-set? That's poor curation to me.

A standard opening set should be at least 2 hrs. 9-11:30pm or 10-11:30/12. Not saying a more experienced DJ can't have a bad set too, there have been many such cases, the thing is everybody should be given room to play and play well. Every part of the party is important.
