Today marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. As we honor the 1.5 million Armenians murdered by the Ottoman Empire across modern-day Turkey, Syria, and Armenia, we must refuse to let history repeat itself.
In 2020, the military forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey attacked the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh. In 2023, Azerbaijan expelled over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, continuing the genocidal campaign that had begun over 100 years prior.
On this day of remembrance, we reaffirm the right of the Armenian people — and all people — to freedom, safety, and self-determination.

Chamboi has said "kwaheri" (goodbye in Swahili) to his stable – and moved into a big boy bedroom!
Our growing orphaned black rhino - who turned two in September 2026 - reached a milestone recently when he moved into an open-air stockade.
The transition was no small undertaking – rhinos are creatures of habit and he would have happily remained in his baby stockade until he was quite literally bursting at the seams. By transferring some of the smells he knows – namely dung! – he settled into his new night-time accommodation seamlessly, spending his days roaming the bush with his Keepers.
Moments like this are critical to the process of raising rhinos, where the rearing part is actually far easier than the rewilding phase. Discover more: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/p…

What a morning for Muridjo!
Rather than looking after the babies, our mini matriarch was making a scene in the forest – for no apparent reason. She ran here and there and everywhere, with ears, tail, and trunk aloft, trumpeting along the way. Volume up! We could see no reason for Muridjo’s wily behaviour and agreed that she was just being her old quirky self! She even recruited sensible Taroha to join her mission.
Muridjo has always charted her own path. After the drought left her orphaned, she secreted herself away. She managed to fend for herself for several days, although she was far too young to survive on her own long-term.
Now, Muridjo has a family with us and a wild future ahead of her. Learn more about her rescue :

Dame Daphne Sheldrick believed elephants can read your heart – and once you've earned their trust and affection, they never forget it.
This Valentine's Day, we'd love to help you find your orphan match. Perhaps a spirited troublemaker who keeps the Keepers on their toes. A gentle soul who comforts newer arrivals. Or a resilient survivor who refused to give up. Meet the orphans in our care and see who's your perfect partner:

If you can believe it, we just welcomed another baby boy to our Voi family!
With great pomp and circumstance, matriarch Mweya (in front) led her ex-orphan herd back to the stockades after an absence of eight months. We soon realised the reason for all the ceremony: Mbirikani (bringing up the rear) had given birth to a beautiful little boy! It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss him introduction, because he is flanked by Mweya’s kids – turned hawkish mini nannies – Mwitu and Mwangaza.
This is a wonderful new milestone for Mbirikani, a snare survivor who stands out as one of our most dramatic recoveries. We’ll be sharing more in following posts, or you can read the full story of baby Mica’s debut on our website: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/n…
