She was born in Iran and built her life in Afghanistan a woman's rights activist with a voice that frightened the men around her. So her ex-husband threw acid on her face. In the hospital, after the surgeries, she sat with her head shaved doctors had taken skin from her scalp to rebuild her face. She was still bandaged, still bleeding, still healing. But her son was not by her side. He was living with his father. And his father set the condition: if you want to talk to your son, you will do it on a video call so I can see what you've become. She accepted. She needed to hear her child's voice. On that call, her ex-husband looked at her destroyed face and smiled. He said: "Look at you. You've become like a monster. You'll never dare go out in public again people will be terrified when they see you. I dare you. I dare you to go out and talk about women's rights." He thought he had broken her. He thought that face was the end of her. He was wrong. Every scar on her face became a sentence in her speech. They took her beauty so she took his fear and turned it into courage. Today she walks in public with her head high, and she speaks about women's rights louder than ever. He wanted to bury her in shame. Instead, he gave the world a witness. That is why I invited her to our Freedom gala in Poland to dedicate to her the Medal of Freedom I received. Because she is the symbol of resilience itself: the symbol of every woman whose face was burned but whose voice could not be silenced. Thank you, Poland for opening your doors, for giving visas to my delegation of women from Iran, Afghanistan, and Cameroon. We are about to start a global women's rights movement and we will go together, all of us, to the German Parliament very soon. This time, I invited 10 women. In Berlin, we will invite more dissidents. @FahimaSarfaraz

Availability bias « transparent institutions (or people) attract disproportionate criticism because their failures are visible, while opaque institutions escape scrutiny because their failures remain hidden » Anything to say about about Cholesterol Treatment Trialists (CTT) withholding data from independent auditors @DrMarthaGulati? I won’t hold my breath…
These guys never reported their primary endpoint. Because they didn’t like it. So now blaming @Cleerlyhealth because they got the answer they liked with “re-analysis”. It should have never been accepted for publication but it is ridiculous to blame Cleerly for this. Show us the data to justify this.

Dave, I don't think it's appropriate to discuss further details of a vendor's dataset in public. I would be happy to discuss the other issues I raised regarding data management and the validation status of the other datasets.

No one can beat the physiology of hunger via « discipline ». No one. It’s like trying to hold your breath indefinitely.
This is the absolute LAST post I ever expected to be making on the Monday of my bodybuilding show week. After months of weighing every gram of food, tracking every calorie, hitting my workouts, doing my cardio, practicing my posing, and preparing myself mentally, physically, and spiritually to step on stage this Saturday, I spent this past weekend binge eating in a way I’ve never experienced before. And when I say binge eating, I don’t mean I went out and enjoyed a cheat meal or ate a little more than I was supposed to. I mean I completely lost control. I kept eating long after my stomach was telling me to stop. I was physically uncomfortable, I wasn’t even enjoying the food anymore, and yet I continued eating. And the scariest part wasn’t even the amount of food I consumed. It was what was going through my head while I was doing it. At a certain point, it felt like I was intentionally sabotaging myself. Like there was a part of me that wanted to ruin everything I had worked so hard for. And I’ve spent the last couple of days asking myself WHY. Was I afraid I wasn’t going to look good enough on stage? Was I afraid of disappointing myself? Was I putting so much pressure on myself that I subconsciously wanted a way out? I don’t have all the answers. But those are some uncomfortable questions I’ve had to start asking myself. After the first binge, I told my coach Chris Elkins everything. Every single thing I ate. We talked about it, and the plan was to move forward, reassess, and take things day by day. The next day, I got right back to my routine. Tracked my food, followed my plan, and genuinely thought I had moved past what happened. Then nighttime came. What started as one extra bite of food turned into another binge. And this one was even worse than the first. I can’t even explain how disappointed I felt afterward. Not because I had eaten food that wasn’t on my plan. But because I had reached a point where I felt like I couldn’t stop myself from doing something I knew was hurting me. I woke up physically miserable. My face was extremely swollen, my body felt awful, and I was looking at myself in the mirror trying to understand how I had gotten here. And now here I am. Five days away from the competition I’ve spent months preparing for, roughly 10 pounds heavier than I was going into the weekend, and genuinely uncertain whether I’m going to step on stage this Saturday. Chris believes competing is still an option. Part of me wants to finish what I started. Another part of me wonders whether postponing until November would be the better decision. Because I know how much work I put into this prep. And I also know that the choices I made this weekend have consequences. I’m not going to sit here and blame anybody else. I’m not going to pretend it didn’t happen. And I’m definitely not going to ask anyone to feel sorry for me. But I also don’t want to spend the rest of my life beating myself up over two days. I made those choices. I have to own them. And now I have to figure out how to move forward. One thing this weekend has forced me to recognize is just how much pressure I’ve been putting on myself. Not only with bodybuilding, but with life in general. Constantly working. Constantly thinking about what’s next. Constantly being on my phone. Constantly feeling like I need to be doing MORE. And somewhere along the way, I stopped giving myself enough room to just live. So regardless of whether I compete Saturday or in November, some things are going to change. I’m prioritizing my sleep. I’m taking real breaks from social media. I’m giving myself time to recover. And I’m going to take a serious look at my relationship with food and the pressure I’ve been putting on myself. I’m not going to pretend I’ve figured everything out in 48 hours. I haven’t. And I don’t want to turn this into some inspirational story about how I fell down and immediately got back up stronger than ever. I’m still figuring it out.

High insulin and insulin resistance always travel together. A new study shows it again. Researchers tested 178 South Asian and 107 Nordic women one to three years after gestational diabetes. Among the women with normal glucose, the South Asian women secreted more insulin, and that extra insulin tracked with lower insulin sensitivity, not with the gut hormones GIP and GLP-1. Glucagon is the other striking piece. Despite their higher insulin, these women suppressed glucagon less after a glucose drink and had more total glucagon exposure. Insulin normally shuts glucagon down, so this looks like the insulin resistance reaches the pancreas's own alpha cells. Hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance are inseparable, and insulin resistance can even affect other cells within the pancreas. Together, that makes glucose much harder to control, and a normal glucose test can hide all of it.

5/6) Now, the paradox. The abstract says brown fat was linked to a favorable lipid profile. But what about LDL cholesterol, the biomarker that takes up all the oxygen in the room? People with more brown fat had higher HDL, lower triglycerides, and, paradoxically, higher LDL cholesterol, despite better cardiovascular outcomes. Here's what bothers me: HDL and triglycerides were prominently displayed in Figure 3, while LDL was buried past 69 references, author contributions, conflicts of interest, and dense methods, all the way in Extended Data Figure 5, panel B, inset 3. I'll just say I find that conspicuous.

LDL as your “outcome”; might as well set money on fire Utterly useless
Quite remarkable: a daily peptide pill lowered LDL cholesterol by 57% in a trial of 2,904 adults, nearly all already taking statins. Placebo LDL rose 3%. At one year, the enlicitide group was still 50% below baseline. Adverse-event rates were similar in both groups.
