I am in awe that this can even be produced! The collaboration with Fabio Gramazio and Matthias Kohler is taking shape cut-by-cut.
Octagonal infinite tiling of a surface between two skipped cubic (nbo) skeletons. The clue, the base tile is about as far from regular as it gets. (1/n)
The tiling can be divided into modules using a graph decomposition of the Poincaré dual on the flags of the octagon. Checking the residual graphs for isomorphic subgraphs sometimes feels like fishing in a pond. (5/n)
An “ugly duckling”… Beauty is often associated with symmetry and this tile has none all by itself. To make the magic happen, start by laying it out on the hyperbolic plane using rotations only. (1/n)
