I just took to the Senate floor to call out the Trump Administration’s outrageous order to shut down the Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center. Hundreds of Nevadans rely on this program to learn the skills necessary to access good-paying jobs & achieve the American Dream. This move will take all of that away.

🚨 32% of Nevada’s state budget comes from federal funding. When that funding was temporarily frozen, it wasn’t just a headline – it put real people’s livelihoods on the line across our state. What did that mean? It meant state programs that provide critical health and childcare services to families in need were immediately at risk. It meant uncertainty for public schools, law enforcement agencies, and hospitals trying to keep their doors open. It meant potential cuts to programs that combat hate crimes, support survivors of violence, and deliver life-saving disaster relief. That’s not politics – that’s real life. And as Attorney General, my job is to ensure that we don’t have to worry about our paychecks, our medicine, or our safety in the Silver State. So I fought back on behalf of all of us in Nevada – and, at least for now, we won. Last week, I also traveled to Fernley, Winnemucca, and Elko to hear directly from folks about what was at stake for them during the funding freeze. Because I don’t know about Washington, but I know Nevada. And I’ll always put the Nevada family first.

Summer is unofficially here, and that means mosquitos! This season, we're using a drone to help combat mosquito larvae before they can grow into adult mosquitos that can spread disease. Learn more: bit.ly/4dXAINd

Students who experienced peer pressure from their friends were more likely to smoke or vape. In Nevada, one in five middle and high schoolers have used electronic vapor products in the last 30 days. For more information, visit attractingaddictionnv.com/

Jason Geddes’ life story was the story of Nevada. He was born in Winnemucca, spent his early years in Gabbs and graduated from Traner Middle School, Sparks High School and the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry, served as ASUN president, and was awarded his Ph.D. in environmental sciences and health. He was elected to the Nevada State Assembly after walking his entire district, listening to the broad cross-section of people who shared with him their dreams and goals for the future and then served as a legislator who never forgot those important conversations with his constituents. As governor of Nevada and as president of the University, I always admired Jason’s ability as a member of the Board of Regents to advocate in his commonsense and highly effective way for the students, faculty and staff of all of Nevada’s institutions of higher education. In his words and actions, in his personal and professional lives, in his many achievements and in the countless friendships he forged throughout our state, Jason was Nevada personified. It should not go unnoticed that Jason almost always eschewed a traditional tie for a bolo tie that was in the shape of Nevada. This was who he always was. This was how he proudly chose to represent himself. Lauralyn and I wish to extend the heartfelt condolences of our University to Jason’s wife Cindie, his son Joseph and his family.
