Examine #response #bias in #psychological research: Participants’ believes in a research hypothesis but not their motivation to please the experimenter or ability to adjust behaviour influences human study results!
Replying to @coles_nicholas_
The commonly proposed response bias mechanism was not supported
We did not find that motivation (A) or ability to adjust responses (B) predicted demand effects
But something else did: the extent to which participants believed the study hypothesis (C). A placebo/mindset effect!
