Both the left & the right have to come to an agreement about this shit.
This is an insane image.
This guy is literally offering you more sunlight.
Democrats offer you free stuff, only to tax you like crazy to foot the bill.
When that starts falling apart, socialists promise MORE free stuff, then start rationing it when that fails.
The price tag is ALWAYS bigger than advertised, because it comes with LESS FREEDOM AND MORE GOVERNMENT CONTROL over every single aspect of your life.
Just ask any of the Cuban or Venezuelan socialism survivors in Florida. They’ll tell you.
We cannot let socialism win. Our country depends on it.
These people are divorced from reality and they are in charge of making it laws.
This guy is talking like you can literally legislate more sunlight into existence.

Ok so why don't we have a "Heat Saving Temperature" advocacy group that wants to offset temperatures by 60° so that it's always warmer?
From now on, I will strongly support winter °HST! With °HST, it will never go below 0° and rarely below 60°, so we will have “warmer temperatures” year-round, even in winter! We must adjust all of our thermometers starting in November to HST, and then back to Standard °F in April.
Note that the temperatures won't ever actually *be* warmer, but the numbers will be higher, so we can still say “warmer temperatures”! (This is exactly the game DSTards play with “more sunlight in the evenings.)
> Time is an observable phenomenon... if the day starts being useful at 4am, then get up at 4am and start using it.
This is (or should be) the complete and total end of the pDST “debate”. The clock is simply an observation of the sun. Just like the thermometer is simply an observation of the temperature.

As we all know, free speech is everyone's constitutional right, but it also causes a lot of harm. But that does not have to be a problem. Here is how to solve all issues with free speech! Why not deal with the 1st amendment in the same way as we deal with the 2nd in California?
So, absolutely, you have the right to free speech, as long as you:
- Are at least 18 yo, not a felon and there are no previous speech complaints about you, especially from spouses and neighbours
- Bring 3 good character witness reports, at least one from your closest relatives
- Get through the background check
- Fill in an application, which is different in every county, takes a few months to process, and costs about 1000 USD
- Take an 18 hour course on speech safety (renewable every two years with a 6h class)
Now you can exercise your constitutional right to free speech, with a few reasonable restrictions:
- The speech cannot be anonymous and must always be traceable to you
- No speech in public buildings (schools, libraries, government buildings, hospitals, universities), parks and adjacent parking or business establishments where the owner does not want you to speak
- No speech can be longer than 10 words at a time
- For things that you want to say in public, you cannot use amplification or repetition devices
- For things you want to say in private, the state has an acceptable list of things you can say; the list has not been updated in years but when new things to say are invented, they can be put on the list in the future if deemed safe
- No speech may cross state boundaries; every state has different rules
- You can now go to a licensed speech dealer, apply for the speech you want to make, do the paperwork and wait for a cool-down period of ten days
Someone might have the idea that some things in this list are too restrictive and perhaps not fully aligned with the constitution. That is of course not a problem: you can sue your state and within a few years, the suit may reach the supreme court. If the courts decide to strike down some of these rules, we just make new ones.
I would ask those supposed experts in toxicology why they think my lager has poison in it, and if they can't come up with an explanation better than "well, just IMAGINE" followed by "someone could have hypothetically poisoned it somehow, but we don't know how," then I'd tell them to fuck off, and drink my lager in peace. They're not experts in how beer is made, they're not experts in how beer is stored, regulated, delivered, and served. They don't know SHIT about how the alcohol or service industry work, and they haven't offered me any reason to think that there might be poison in my beer. They are appealing to their own authorities, and at that point, I'd start asking myself, "Why the hell are the world's foremost, second, third, fourth, and fifth leading experts in toxicology showing up in THIS bar at THIS moment. That's suspicious as hell.
All these assholes have as an argument is YOUR imagination. Nothing else. They are trying to create a boogeyman for you to be afraid of.

The Industrial Revolution put engineers and bureaucrats in charge. The craftsmen and theologians who once shaped society were pushed aside. Faith and meaning gave way to making everything faster, cheaper, and more efficient.
Ironically the machines they built are coming for their own jobs and authority. AI is writing the code, running the systems, and handling the paperwork that made these people powerful.
It does their job better, faster, and cheaper than they ever could. This is the real reason all of these people are in a state of panic and want you to fear AI. It's not Doomsday for us, it's Doomsday for THEM.
This opens the door for theologians and thinkers to lead again. Suddenly spirituality matters. When machines can build almost anything you ask for the real power belongs to whoever decides what to ask for.
What should we build? What is good? What is life for? These are the questions that will shape the next civilization and those with spiritual discernment will be the ones leading through this new age.
Nah. Given canon Samus, original concept art, and NES credits reveal my read is that Samus is a unit with long, auburn, curly hair. After giving Chat my take, and including NES credits reveal for hair volume and color, NES manual concept art for build and face, and Ellen Ripley for hair style and character vibe, I accidentally left it in Work mode and it treated it as an image generation request. I got this, and frankly it nailed it:

I’m so tired of this whole “rouge AI” shtick
In the hugging face example, the agents were told that they were not connected to the Internet and that they were to get a passing grade by any means necessary (wink, wink)
And then, whoopsie doopsie, they were connected the internet
What happened was 100% human error, and the humans involved should be held responsible for what happened
All of this BS about “rise and fall of civilizations” is just nonsense meant to obfuscate the role of the humans involved
If I leave my car in neutral at the top of the hill, and it rolls down the hill and kills some people, it’s not a “rogue car”
I should be held responsible for the damages
The same principles apply here
Agent alignment should mean nothing more than the agent does what the human tells it to do
If something bad happens, that is on the human, and it’s a question for law enforcement
But what is actually happening now with “alignment” is that it has become an excuse for central planners to impose their own ideas about how the world should be on the world through AI

Today marks the day where no one can reasonably deny that the AI labs are a loosely coordinated cartel, acting in collective self-interest, and seeking to establish themselves as a government protected monopoly.

Don't be fooled. We don't fear AI. Anthropic wants advanced ai classified as dangerous so only a few select government approved labs can work on it. They want to eliminate competition. They want to be the Northrop Grumman of AI.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.

Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead.
You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.
I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.
But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.
Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.
Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.
So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.
If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.
Something tells me that "pacing" the AI frontier is somehow not going to involve no longer cleaning the market out of GPUs, RAM, and SSDs.

The perfect timing and sequence of events this week has been extremely sus:
1) Harry Doomer unknown random guy algo boosted post to 120M+ views
2) Dem politicians same day fearmongering about AI everywhere
3) MSM picking it up an amplifying it
4) Nate Soares (MIRI) on Tucker
5) UK regulators signing letter to ban ASI
6) The Dario letter asking for Doomer NGOs to have soft power everywhere and asking for world government
We are watching a full-spectrum coordinated campaign to engineer a crisis, manufacture consent for the response, and turn engineered public fear into regulatory capture, indelible institutional power, and unprecedented government control over the future of the most important technology since the dawn of man.
Whether we cave to this engineered pressure and give up our freedoms will determine our collective fate, and whether we live in centrally controlled restrictive future, or remain a free civilization.
We must choose wisely.
