When Muslims say, “These terrorists are not Muslims,” I honestly laugh. Not because every terrorist represents Islam. They don't. But because some of these men were Muslims who genuinely identified with Islam. Osama bin Laden was Muslim. Ayman al-Zawahiri was Muslim. Mohamed Atta was Muslim. Ziad Jarrah was Muslim. Marwan al-Shehhi was Muslim. Bilal Abdulla was Muslim. Kafeel Ahmed was Muslim. And in the 2025 Red Fort investigation, Indian authorities identified Dr Umar Un Nabi as the suspected suicide bomber and arrested several other Muslim doctors they alleged were involved. So let's stop playing with words. Yes, they were Muslims. No, they did not represent Islam. Those two statements can be true at the same time. A criminal can be a Muslim without his crime becoming Islamic. If we cannot admit that, we are not defending Islam. We are simply refusing to confront the people who misuse it.
