Here’s National's 5 changes to Jobseeker this election: 1. Random drug testing. 2. Intensive support to get 30,000 long-term Jobseekers into work. 3. A lower payment rate after two years on the benefit. 4. Stand-down doubled to 26 weeks for people who repeatedly quit work without good reason. 5. Residency requirement raised from two years to five. Firm where it needs to be, fair to everyone who pays for it. This isn’t about punishing someone because they haven't found a job. It’s about making sure people receiving Jobseeker Support meet reasonable expectations to be work ready, which also helps ensure it is fair to hardworking taxpayers who fund the system. It’s part of National’s wider economic plan, which means 220,000 new jobs expected and debt coming down without no new taxes. A Labour coalition would squander surpluses, hike debt and hit Kiwis with nine new taxes to pay for its spending plans – and that would mean every household paying $2263 in extra tax every year.
