tech desperately needs a new design aesthetic
we literally have agi now and flying cars
but every ui looks the same with this apple/linear minimalist rounded corner tailwind shadcn slop look
we’re not thinking big enough on how things should look and feel
chatting with an agent should look and make me feel like i’m living in the future
it should make me feel hope and awe and optimism that humanity actually got to agi and it will lead to unimaginable prosperity
it should make me tap into my 9 year old self, who wondered if we’d *ever* have talking humanoid robots, and make me feel totally amazed by the realization that this future is not even a possibility now, it is a CERTAINTY!
the time is so ripe now
the coding agents have gotten so good that we can be experimenting and playing with new ideas 100x faster than before
now is the time for excessive experimentation
I still see room dividers fairly often in NYC studio apartments, where all the windows are off on one side of the apartment but also require space separation

My Claude found a critical zero day vulnerability in the Code of Hammurabi, unnoticed by developers for 3,779 years.
I guess a good heuristic for good writing is that reading it should always take less time than it took to write

CAUTION RE: NOSTALGIA
Idt the answer is "90s & Geocities!" Our visual culture has changed — & so have computers and people. It's not just about marquees & starry backgrounds.
My test is: Do I feel the person behind the page?
Some non-90s examples @ showcase.mmm.page
there is a tier of personalities above the npc-archetype, who seem like they were put together by claude i.e., perfectly functional, probably even beautiful on a superficial level, but devastatingly bland overall
I wonder if in a decade or so we'll look at Sutton's "The Bitter Lesson" the same way we read Fukuyama's "The End Of History?" today

Deleting Instagram did NOTHING to improve my productivity. I now doomscroll on Google Maps.
feels like it would be incredibly nourishing to do both rather than picking one
You're either going all in on AI, tokenmaxxing, automating everything you once did manually, moving from playing the instrument to conducting the entire orchestra...
Or you're going in the complete opposite direction. Learning ceramics, restoring old wooden furniture, bringing theater back (cinema is dead), organizing communal gatherings where nobody touches a phone, rediscovering what it means to be human in a world increasingly run by machines.
I genuinely believe there's no middle ground anymore.
The people caught somewhere in between, neither embracing the machines nor radically reclaiming the human experience, are the ones who will get wiped out.
The middle is where AI will eat everything.
