Issue 57 of The Communist is out now!
People will be the judge but IMO it will go down in the history books 📚

Wow. One of my all-time favourite centre page articles in The Communist by @fiona_lali on the origins of racism.

Who fought the fascists at Cable Street, and who didn't? 👀
90 years on, the Battle of Cable Street should be studied by everyone who wants to fight the far right. But one part is often missed: not everyone on the left wanted to fight the fascists. Have today’s leaders learned from yesterday’s cowardice?

Labour politicians, the media, and the 'left' have all been lulled by Burnham's 'hopeful' vision. These people no idea how removed they are from the real mood in society. Events across the Channel paint a very different picture of where things are headed.

I've written this article because an important discussion needs to take place about how to take the anti-racist movement forwards.
@SWP_Britain & @AntiRacismDay have led the movement down a blind alley. But where did their mistakes come from? What next?

Incredibly important article for the left, especially those feeling disillusioned by the tactics of the SWP and SUTR amidst the reemergence of far-right thuggery on our streets

The theoretical polemic which marks the death knell of @SWP_Britain’s leadership of the anti-racist movement in Britain, written by @bolsh3vik
It’s really very good.

Look at this insane piece by the so-called 'Communist' Party. It says "A Burnham leadership may open up space in Labour for anti-war voices again". That was written yesterday. Today Burnham has appointed John Healy as Chancellor - a man who is demanding MORE money for war!
Why Burnham replacing Starmer opens opportunities for the left
Despite the screeching from the right-wing media, Burnham’s speech chimed with the public mood - and socialists should take advantage, says Morning Star editor BEN CHACKO

Elon Musk, Tommy Robinson, Rupert Lowe and Farage get rich off racism!
These riots, 'stop the boats' and 'hostile environment' rhetoric didn't appear out of thin air. For decades, the political establishment has consciously scapegoated migrants to deflect blame from their own failures. They want working-class people fighting each other so we don't look at them. 1/🧵

Reflections on today's Palestine / anti-Tommy march:
- Guessing crowd numbers is never easy. But I think we can safely say that it was in the hundreds of thousands, perhaps half a million.
- It outnumbered Tommy's pathetic showing by not much less than ten to one. This is a victory to be proud of! And it's a confirmation that, despite last September's huge UTK demo, Tommy's social base is weak, and his hard core is small (and full of nutters).
- The Palestine demo had that unmistakable febrile atmosphere of a packed demo. It felt like the biggest and most vibrant Palestine demo since the first wave dissipated, at least that I've attended.
- This in itself shows that the Palestine movement still has enormous reserves of energy, even if it is sometimes driven under the surface. Palestine remains the number one pole for political mobilisations in Britain, and that isn't going anywhere soon.
- The movement itself feels like it is developing and maturing. People are learning from the events around them, and connecting them together – particularly the Epstien scandal, the Iran War, and the establishment's hysterical antisemitism smear campaign. All of these came up in conversations RCP members had, numerous times.
- There's a clear sense of optimism emerging on the left, driven by the defeats of US imperialism, the crisis of the Starmer regime, the success of 28 March, and the upsurge of the Greens. These likely all factored into the turnout.
- The effective merging of the Palestine and anti-racist movements which took place on both 28 March and 16 May is a hugely positive development. Moving beyond single-issue politics can only strengthen the left. If the trade union movement and anti-austerity movements were to be pulled in, that would mark an even bigger step forward.
- It must be said, however, that some of the mobilising potential was likely squandered by the fact that the Together Alliance leadership scandalously did not decide to back today's demonstration! The opportunism and inaction of the liberal and reformist leaders is being exposed already. And this won't have gone unnoticed.
- The movement now has an opportunity to capitalise upon this energy and momentum. The obvious next step would be to begin mobilising for a mammoth anti-Starmer demonstration, utilising this moment of weakness for the Labour regime in order to go onto the offensive, and force Starmer to resign.
- Such a campaign could have the clear slogans of: Starmer out! No trust in Labour! Down with all the racists and war criminals! Against austerity and militarism!

These day-by-day accounts of the 1926 British general strike are awesome. Really brings the history to life.
The fourth day of the strike saw the trade union leaders continue their attempts to do secret deals with the government to end the strike. While the TUC appealed for calm, the workers were left to lead the struggle themselves.

The repression in Gilgit-Baltistan continues. Since Sunday’s three more supports of the Awami Action Committee (AAC) have been arrested in Hunza, Tehseen Javed, Suhail, and Fazal were subject to police raids following peaceful protests.
Ehsan Ali and key leaders of the AAC still remain behind bars in torturous conditions.
The AAC has spent ten years on the front lines, fighting for the people’s right to bread, health, education, and democracy.
We demand an end to this brutal crackdown! Join the movement for justice. Free Ehsan Ali! Hands off the AAC!

Today’s march against racism and the far right was enormous. It’s the biggest non-Palestine march for the left in years. The organisers claim the biggest anti-racist march ever. I’ve read half a million estimated and I believe those numbers. (1/4)

We are in the second week of the war on Iran. A war that Starmer is directly participating in.
It seems to be that they are no closer to the regime change they wanted.
1,300 Iranians killed. Bombs abroad and austerity at home. The economic impact will devastate more lives.
They are dragging the world into barbarism.
