Notice how bone-like the results are
there's something genuinely beautiful about topology optimization
you give it a load case, a boundary, and a material budget and it just… removes everything that doesn't need to be there
no aesthetic intent
no design language
no human bias toward familiar shapes
just physics deciding what stays
the results look organic because nature runs the same algorithm stress flows material remains where it must everything else disappears
engineers spent centuries adding material for confidence
topology optimization asks a different question entirely:
what's the minimum structure that doesn't fail?
and the answer is always something that looks alive
The smartest people are barely smarter than the dumbest. And all of us are barely smarter than apes. And yet look at the results. This is fundamentally the best argument for why intelligence is scary.

It used to be we had some things that only a few people could understand. Now we have some things zero people understand, but there's a model available to literally every single person that can understand and teach it.
Gen ai is just what people have been calling ai once it started working. There's no use arguing semantics. Fundamentally what these people oppose is AI that works. (understandable)
This is good advice for the newly AGI pilled. After vibe coding came proompting. The more half assed and vague you are, the better the results.
Hi, I'm Felix. I'm an eng lead working on Claude. I love watching people take flight and do things they never thought possible.
We often describe that as "being more ambitious" when using AI, which is tricky advice to follow. I wrote a tutorial:

AI music: biggest capabilities gap
AI art: biggest lack of traditional artists entering + experimenting with better taste, so it leans culturally Alabamian
AI code: perfect, beautiful, delightful
AI writing: scientific is the best and fiction is the worst
I should have predicted that all human generated knowledge would become "indigenous ways of knowing" after AGI
"AI cancer drug gets pushed on unwilling patients" is the exact opposite of how this is going to pan out. The drug to cure cancer will come out and thousands of people will be begging for it but they won't get it, not for a while.
Giving the game away. AI theory of mind isn't something you should be thinking through. You should disconnect from intellectual stimulation until society has beaten the correct beliefs into you.
Dr Gingerballs is an academic and seems unaware that the impossible conclusions of his flawless logic are the current reality of every working software engineer.

No it doesn’t. Statistically guessing solutions is not economically competitive in a large, high variance environment. There are no games you can play to make it so.

The stochastic parrot paper was as wrong when it was written as it is now. It presented an unworkable theory of meaning, and made incorrect claims about the capabilities of statistical text models. Both authors make pretty much the same claims today.

While "othering" has become generally disreputable, many now want to do it to AIs. Don't. overcomingbias.com/p/dont-ot…
12 months ago in AI:
Antigravity 2.0 now features a dedicated planning mode, just like the Antigravity CLI.
Type /plan and the agent steps back to think through the task, and conduct extensive research, before generating an implementation plan for your review. The agent will ask for your approval before it begins executing on the task.
You can also ask for a plan naturally in your prompt, for a lighter version of a plan.
What is happening in the entire software industry right now is that every day is a mad rush to hand over more and more systems, data, and control to agents. The benefits are just too huge to spend time on much else.
One of the bitter pills ppl might need to swallow: the world will always belong to those who construct their own reality. The singularity will continue to repeat infite times and Gary Marcus will never be owned.
it’s a shame to see someone like @NateSilver538 does not understand a basic, fundamental technical distinction. (@tristanharris and Kevin Roose missed it the other day, too.)
pure LLMs were (very roughly and certainly not exactly) like stochastic parrots.
harnesses, tools, code interpreters heralded the spread of neurosymbolic AI.
the new systems are hybrids; they work differently. the somewhat weak metaphor is much weaker with them.
but the fact that they are less like stochastic parrots doesn’t mean the original systems weren’t, nor that pure scaling worked.
it means that neurosymbolic AI was an important next step.
this still doesn’t mean we have AGI; most of the progress works best in verifiable domains; truly reliable general intelligence has certainly not yet arrived.
(my 2020 article Next Decade in AI foresaw all of this, and what’s still missing, including world models, which i called cognitive models there.)
