So happy to discover this thread! I feel there was some point where the media suddenly switched from using staycation correctly to instead mean a holiday in the UK - it annoys me a lot…

My annual commitment to die on this hill: A holiday in the UK is a holiday. A staycation is staying in your home and doing nice day trips etc. Always feels like a weird form of snobbery to say it's only a real holiday if it's abroad.
