for the last year, i believed college didn’t matter much when it came to hiring for startups. i was wrong. from what we’ve observed, college still matters to many companies, especially in india. an IIT or IIM tag can create an initial signal of credibility, open doors faster, and influence how quickly a profile gets reviewed. (don’t hate me for saying this. i’m sharing what we’ve actually seen) that doesn’t mean college is everything, and it definitely doesn’t mean people from other colleges can’t build exceptional careers. strong proof of work, deep skills, and real outcomes can still change the conversation. but pretending that college never matters would be dishonest. for some companies, it matters a lot. for others, it barely matters at all. college can be a signal, but proof of work is the evidence you can show!
