I think the only people who genuinely get that crazy about engagement are either very young or super naive. I get feeling disappointed but its a whole other thing if you want people to interact with you in a certain way in order to engage with you.

That first point alone is gonna kill engagement. Just private your fics for registered users like a normal person. That last point is quite literally a feature ao3 has.

Like for myself i download fics if they’re too long and i can’t deal with having safari open all the time and also fiddling with ao3’s website on mobile. I don’t read fics on my computer, where most skins are formatting to.
