There should be a word for coming across an ancient comment on Reddit, thinking that you appreciate the author's perspective and that you clearly have similar approaches to problems, then realizing that it was actually one of your own comments.

Fable, unbounded, writes the worst comments I've seen. /// A store is a database a question can be put to, and its snapshot is /// opened when the question is asked — which is where a store's /// snapshot should be taken, and is exactly what every method above /// does.

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/…

Conversation with one of my counterparts produced this: an engineer looks at a simple ML model and says “wait, you’re telling me this thing gives plausible results on novel inputs?”. An MLE looks at a cache and says “wait, this thing retrains itself?”

An auditor for the Ontario, Canada government found that AI agents tasked with turning doctor/patient conversations into structured notes routinely hallucinated false treatments, replaced drug names with entirely different drugs, and missed crucial information

Discovered that Zimi @zhouliang_mask mask frames are straightforward to reshape with a heat gun. Now I don’t have to stack layers of foam to accommodate my nose. Game changer.

3D printed a small test gyroid cube. Testing heat exchange and airflow by blowing at it with a straw under a thermal camera. It works: heat from channel A is visible through the holes in channel B, but exhaust air doesn't leak between A and B. #diyhrv

Apparently macOS has removed the ability to delete downloaded text-to-speech voices, and some of them are 450MB. They're managed assets so you can't just `rm`. A small script to remove them: github.com/rnewman/remove-ma…

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “But we really are living in a cognitive wild west. Most people have near-zero memetic defenses or cognitive security suited for the online age. Any semblance of it is easily brute-forced by the onslaught of information & the situation is even worse when it comes to AI agent-orchestrated psyops.”

the female family member is medically fragile. I eat in empty patios, or upwind (with a very good wind) of a few people. There are no calculations. Just habits that take a little bit more time. In exchange, I am healthier than I have ever been. More relaxed than I have ever

Trump just declared, "glyphosate-based herbicides are a cornerstone of this Nation’s agricultural productivity and rural economy." And he's declaring glyphosate weedkiller to be a federally-protected critical resources. This is insanity. He is now pushing the mass poisoning of American food crops and groceries with cancer-causing deadly weedkiller chemicals that will be sprayed all over the food crops. Trump just declared chemical warfare on the American people. It's all here in black and white: whitehouse.gov/presidential-…

What makes me sad seeing photos like this & of the NASA astronauts is, you must understand, these athletes didn’t just spontaneously all decide to mask. They’re being forced to mask bc richer ppl have a stake in their bodies & health. Their health has value. Yours doesn’t.

The amount of prompt engineering needed to not make medical professionals have wild irrelevant hallucinations is truly extraordinary. For example, if you mention having had emotional stress they will entirely ignore the long list of physical symptoms you mention afterwards and suggest you look into „psychosomatic“ causes. At this point I don’t know whether to attribute „general intelligence“ or „understanding“ to their architecture.

Today I succeeded at getting the big quiet fan prototype to run with zero audible motor noise at all speeds. There used to be a bit of a hum at lower speeds. Now it can be used in a bedroom while sleeping at the lower speeds, for instance.
