Famous Last Words “I’ve never felt better.” Douglas Fairbanks said it after a heart attack in 1939, then went back to sleep and died that night. The athletic star who played Robin Hood and Zorro reassured the attendant and missed his own limit. For Leaders: I’ve stood on a trail and watched a lead dog's stride shorten while the musher still called the run easy. The team registers the change first. The person in charge decides whether to notice. This week: Name one place you’re still saying you’ve never felt better: your body, a decision, or a pace. Check the actual signals and adjust one thing before the day decides for you. #AdventureStrategist

Your dog "knows" Sit. So why does it only work for one person? Most of the time the problem isn't the dog, and it isn't a missing command. The word stays the same, but what happens after it changes. One person waits for the Sit before opening the door, and another opens it as soon as the dog looks at it. Pretty soon the dog learns the word is optional. Before you teach anything new, try this: Say the command once. If your dog doesn't respond, help them get it right or back up a step. Don't keep repeating it. Make sure everyone in the house uses the same word and the same follow-through. Practice where it falls apart, like the doorway when a raven's in the yard or the driveway when another dog shows up down the road. Short 5- to 10-minute sessions work. More commands won't fix it. Being consistent will. alaskadogworks.com/why-consi…

🎃 NIGHT 25: TECH TERROR For Night 25 of #31NightsOfHorror, the prompt is Tech Terror, and we're going with Truth or Dare (2017). We're bending the theme a little, but that's part of the fun of our October horror challenge. This made-for-TV horror movie follows a group of college friends who decide to play Truth or Dare in a supposedly haunted house. What starts as harmless fun quickly turns deadly when a supernatural force takes over the game, and the players discover refusing to participate isn't an option. And these aren't your typical embarrassing truths or silly dares. The stakes get pretty nasty fast. Have you seen Truth or Dare (2017)? What's your favorite horror movie built around a deadly game? #31NightsOfHorror #TruthOrDare #TechTerror #SupernaturalHorror #HorrorMovies #CultHorror #OctoberHorror robertforto.com/tech-terror-…

Your dog sits in the kitchen and comes across the living room. Then the door opens, a raven lands in the alder, and every cue disappears. That isn't stubbornness or disrespect. Dogs don't automatically carry a skill from one place to the next. A sit in the kitchen isn't a sit at the trailhead yet. It isn't a louder voice or a new word. Say the cue once, follow through, and practice in a spot just one step harder than the last place it worked. Use a long line while recall is still coming along. If your dog can't do it, the spot is too hard, so back up a step. A skill that works in the yard, at the post office, and at the trailhead on a Saturday is the one that lets you stop leaving your dog home. alaskadogworks.com/why-your-…

Most family firms talk about innovation and then punish the first miss. Oct 25: Actionable tip: Pre-agree on the learning you'll take from one failed experiment before you run it. What miss are you willing to fund? #FamilyBusinessSuccession #StrategicLeadership #AdventureStrategist

Theme six in my #doctorate dissertation: Innovation needs risk tolerance, not a speech. Fund one miss on purpose.

🎃 NIGHT 24: TRASHY TERROR For Night 24 of #31NightsOfHorror, the prompt is Trashy Terror, and we're going back to the '70s with Messiah of Evil (1974). The story follows a young woman who travels to a small California coastal town looking for her missing father. She finds a town full of strange people, unsettling behavior, and something seriously wrong beneath the surface. And if you've seen it, you probably remember the grocery store and movie theater scenes. Those alone make this one worth watching. Have you seen Messiah of Evil? What's your favorite obscure or forgotten '70s horror movie? #31NightsOfHorror #MessiahOfEvil #70sHorror #CultHorror #TrashyTerror #HorrorMovies #OctoberHorror robertforto.com/trashy-terro…

🎃 NIGHT 23: BLUMHOUSE For Night 23 of #31NightsOfHorror, the prompt is Blumhouse, and we're going with Happy Death Day 2U (2019). The original was basically Groundhog Day meets a slasher movie, and the sequel takes that idea in a completely different direction. It's funny, a little ridiculous, and surprisingly heartfelt in places. Blumhouse has given us some great horror movies over the years, from The Purge and Sinister to The Black Phone and Get Out. But we figured tonight was a good opportunity to revisit one of its more entertaining sequels. Have you seen Happy Death Day 2U? Do you prefer the original or the sequel? robertforto.com/blumhouse-31… #31NightsOfHorror #HappyDeathDay2U #Blumhouse #HorrorComedy #SlasherMovies #HorrorMovies #OctoberHorror

🎃 NIGHT 23: JUMPSCARE For Night 23 of #31NightsOfHorror, the prompt is Jumpscare, and we're going with Aliens (1986). It's hard to believe this movie is 40 years old! Directed by James Cameron, Aliens brings Sigourney Weaver back as Ellen Ripley, this time heading into space with a squad of Colonial Marines to investigate a colony that's gone mysteriously silent. So here's the big question: Alien (1979) or Aliens (1986)? Which one gets your vote? robertforto.com/jumpscare-31… #31NightsOfHorror #Aliens #JamesCameron #SigourneyWeaver #SciFiHorror #80sHorror #HorrorMovies #OctoberHorror
