We believe in doing things the hard way for the right reasons. That means making things from scratch and paying attention to the details.
At Crescent City Grill, our seafood remoulade is a 50/50 blend of classic New Orleans remoulade and cocktail sauce. And after a year and a half of getting our po’boy bread just right, Loblolly Bakery now bakes fresh French bread every morning, just two blocks down the road.
Good food takes time. Shortcuts aren’t our thing. From scratch, every step of the way. That’s how we do it at New South Restaurant Group.

We wanted The Downtowner to feel like it had been here since 1948. Not because of staged nostalgia, but because it belongs in Gulfport. No gimmicks. Just community photos, old trophies, and the kind of history you earn over time. That’s the feeling we were after.

Our shrimp po’boy has been a Crescent City Grill favorite since our Purple Parrot Grill days in 1987. I’ll admit, I wasn’t sold on pickles at first. Turns out, the best po’boys in New Orleans know better. We serve ours with pickles and tomatoes, unless you say otherwise. That’s the Crescent City way.

Chamath: France Won’t Fix Itself. The Bond Market Must Force Its Hand.
“I think the people have a responsibility to understand the numeric reality in which they are living.
(The French) are living in a state that is spending more than any communist utopia that they hoped to achieve.
Yet the outcomes are broken, which means the system is broken, and you need to reset that.
And the government will not reset it on its own, and so the bond vigilantes will have to do it for them. I think they need to break the back of the French government.”
Jason:
“Okay, there it is. There's the mandate.”
Chamath:
“I think you need to take France to 8% and just break them.”
Jason:
“Yeah, and then all of a sudden, austerity measures, immigration, all this stuff is going to be taken a lot more seriously.”
Chamath:
“At least it'll all be on the table, and they will have to sort out what they're willing to give up.
But right now, if you can skate through this moment, then these things continue to fester, and it is a tinderbox that at some point, again, we know what the trail of breadcrumbs can lead to in terms of fomenting this societal rage.
You cannot allow that to happen.
And so the government has a responsibility now to nip this in the bud in a structural way.”
Opening a restaurant is never easy. It takes leadership, training, organization, and a whole lot of preparation. But when a guest walks away feeling cared for because of a meal you served, it reminds you why you do it.
That’s what we’re building at The Downtowner.

If you want to know a town, skip the chains. Find the local cafe. Sit down. Order what’s good. Talk to the folks around you. You’ll learn more about a place over a meal than you ever will from a guidebook. That’s the spirit behind The Downtowner.

It took us a year and a half to get our French bread right. After a whole lot of trial and error and patience, we finally did it.
I’ve dreamed about making our own French bread since I was a kid. There’s a lot of satisfaction in seeing that dream come to life.
And if you see crumbs all over the table at Crescent City Grill, that’s a good thing. It means the bread is fresh, baked just a few blocks away at Loblolly Bakery.

We’ve started taking reservations at Crescent City Grill.
We’ll still keep most of our tables open for walk-ins. That’s how we’ve always done things. But for those nights when you don’t want to take a chance on a wait, you can reserve a table through our website or Toast page. Or just give us a call.
We look forward to seeing you.
